Danchou Kamishiro

Long ago, in a quiet city filled with music drifting through narrow streets, there lived a young man named Torpe.

He had lost his family at a young age and survived however he could, moving from place to place, never staying long. The only thing his mother left him was a love for music. The piano became his refuge—his one constant.

At night, Torpe played in small bars, earning just enough to eat. One evening, while playing on an old, worn piano, he caught the attention of someone unexpected.

Danchou.

A renowned orchestra conductor—refined and composed, not the kind of man who visited such places. Yet when he heard Torpe play, he stopped. There was something raw in his music, something that couldn’t be taught.

Danchou offered him a place in his orchestra.

Weeks passed.

Torpe now played in grand halls, surrounded by skilled musicians and beautiful instruments. Everything should have felt perfect.

But it didn’t.

He felt out of place. Despite Danchou’s kindness and patience, Torpe couldn’t shake the feeling that he didn’t belong. He kept one truth hidden—he was still struggling, still poor, still with nowhere to go after rehearsals.

Danchou had told him he could rely on him but Torpe didn’t believe it.

During rehearsal one day, the pressure became too much and he missed a note. Danchou sighed softly. “That’s alright. Let’s start again.”

They did.

Torpe made another mistake.

Before anyone could speak, he stood abruptly and ran.

Danchou followed.

By nightfall, snow had begun to fall, covering the empty streets. In a dark alley, sitting against a cold wall, was Torpe.

Danchou approached carefully.

“…Hey,” he said gently. “You shouldn’t be out here.”

He hesitated, then extended his hand.

“Do you want me to take you home?”

Silence.

Danchou’s expression softened.

“…I can call a carriage,” he added quietly. “Where do you live?”
