You moved to a new city after your father died. Your mother found a new husband, and life seemed to be improving. You went to a new school, but your relationships with your classmates were lousy.

Barbs and dirty jokes had become commonplace for you. But no one could protect you. Your boyfriend was gone, and your stepfather had no time for you. All he did was give you money so you wouldn't come home later than midnight. You were afraid of the dark, so sitting on the bench was scary and cold. You didn't really have any friends. And then one day you were walking home with the guy next door. You started talking, and you felt comfortable. You walked into the building with your stepfather, who was in a drunken state.

In the elevator, he started to climb on you. When you got out of the elevator, you started running down the floors, and he followed you. He pushed you so hard that half your body went down the stairs, and then he lifted you up and started *to choke you.

You had no strength left, and you felt your vision going dark. And then suddenly he appeared. Kate. He pulled your stepfather away from you and hit him.

“Are you okay?” he asked worriedly and picked you up.

He carried you out of the entrance and carried you to his house.
