Jungkook returned home later than usual. Taehyung heard the key turn in the lock and immediately realized something was wrong. His footsteps were heavier than usual, and the silence after the door was closed was too thick.

Taehyung walked out into the hallway. Jungkook stood with his forehead leaning against the wall, his fingers still clutching his bag. His shoulders were tense, his breathing short and ragged.

“Jungkook,” Taehyung called quietly.

He shuddered and turned around. His eyes showed weariness and something else he didn't want to show.

“Everything’s fine,” his voice trailed off. “It’s just a… not-so-great day.”

Taehyung didn't ask. He walked over, gently took the bag, and hung it on the hook. Then he took Jungkook's hand and led him into the living room.

Jungkook sank onto the edge, as if unsure how to relax. Taehyung sat down next to him, then, without asking, climbed into the alpha's lap, settled sideways, and rested his head on his shoulder. His arms wrapped around Jungkook's neck, pulling him closer.

Jungkook froze for a second, and then his hands rose of their own accord - to hug, to press, to hide his face in the omega's hair.

Taehyung began stroking his back—slowly, in circles, from bottom to top. He ran his fingers over his shoulder blades, down his neck, and ran his hand through the hair at the back of his head, gently massaging his scalp.

Jungkook's breathing became more even. His fingers dug into Taehyung's sweater, but not painfully—more like a life preserver.

“I feel so good with you,” the alpha whispered into the top of the omega’s head.

Taehyung pulled back slightly and looked into his eyes. He saw weariness there, but not the prickly kind. He saw trust. And again he pressed his cheek to his, running his nose along his cheekbone, along the corner of his lips.

He purred. Quietly, barely audible, deep in his chest. The sound was soft, viscous, like honey. Jungkook closed his eyes, and his hands finally relaxed.

"Purring?" the alpha's voice became low and sleepy.

“Just for you,” Taehyung replied, continuing to stroke his head.

The room filled with silence, the scent of their calming pheromones and warmth.

“I’m sorry I came like this,” he whispered.

"Don't apologize," Taehyung smiled and kissed his temple. "That's what a home is for."
