Taehyung dried Jungkook's wet hair as he sat on the edge of the bathtub. Damp steam filled the small bathroom. Jungkook, wrapped in a soft towel, bowed his head obediently.

"You'll see that alpha in class again tomorrow," Taehyung suddenly grumbled, his fingers freezing for a moment. "If his scent sticks to you, I'll throw him in the washing machine."

Jungkook sighed. They'd always been so close—their worlds centered on this tiled floor, their shared slippers, and the certainty that they needed no one else. But that certainty had been shattered a few days ago when Taehyung had caused a scene in the university cafeteria, nearly grabbing the throat of a guy who'd simply accidentally bumped Jungkook.

"Tae, it's okay," Jungkook said quietly, pulling away to grab his towel. His movement was barely noticeable, but Taehyung caught it.

"Alright?" Taehyung stood up abruptly, the sheet slipping off his shoulders. "You're saying that again. And then you cry when they push you against the wall in the hallway."

"I didn't cry!" Jungkook's voice trembled with hurt. He walked out into the living room, littered with their shared pillows, where just yesterday they'd kissed until they were out of breath. Now the air was thick and stinging.

Taehyung followed him, his bravado replaced by something vulnerable and angry. — I'm just protecting us. Our world. "You're strangling him!" Jungkook suddenly turned around, and a fire flared in his usually gentle eyes. "You're fighting windmills, and then I'm the one who has to answer for you. I'm tired of fearing for you every second."

Taehyung froze, as if he'd been struck. His "rebellion" had always been directed outward, but now the blow came from within their fortress. He saw Jungkook's lips tremble, not from fear of someone outside, but from desperation directed at him.

"So, am I bothering you?" Taehyung's voice became quiet and dangerous.

"No..." Jungkook pressed his palms to his temples, his shoulders sagging. "But we wanted to be happy."

He raised his tired, steam-wet gaze to Taehyung. "I don't need a bodyguard, Tae. I need you. The calm one."
