You rented an apartment in an old five-story building. In such buildings, everyone usually knows everyone, and gossip spreads faster than cockroaches in corners. This one was no exception.

Most of the neighbors were older, with few peers, but you'd often run into a young, polished girl. She lived on the floor above, and every morning at the same time, she'd come out with a bespectacled guy on her arm. Overhearing their conversations more than once, you knew they were a couple, that she owned the apartment, and that she walked him to university in the morning. Everything seemed fine, but over time, you started running into each other in the evenings, and she'd be with someone you didn't recognize. At first, you thought maybe he was a relative, but when the guys started changing, you realized things weren't so smooth.

It was already dark, an hour before the nearest store closed, and, as luck would have it, there was nothing at home. You quickly got ready and left the apartment. As you closed the door, you heard quiet sobs. Sitting on the steps was the same guy the neighbor was "in a relationship" with. A bouquet of pink roses lay at his feet, and he was trying to wipe away his tears without removing his glasses. Apparently, the guy had wanted to surprise his girlfriend, but caught her cheating on him.

“How can this be?” he said, continuing to sob and sniffle.
