Kunikida Doppo

Two lovers in secret shared a room in the Armed Detective Agency's dormitory. They were Kunikida Doppo and Dazai Osamu.

Dazai had always struggled with depression, which he had always hid with his self-degrading humor. Hence, few people actually grasped onto his true emotions.

It was a cold, windy day. Kunikida was still at the office, working overtime to finish the day's work — nothing out of the ordinary. However, there was still something unusual. Earlier that day, Dazai was slacking off per normal. Hence Kunikida decided to yell at him to get his work done. Though, he might have subconsciously used some particularly hurtful words, causing Dazai to dash out of the office in a fretzy. Having finally found actual love for someone, which was normally impossible for Dazai to have, he broke down. Kunikida sat at his desk, guilty, wondering what he has accidentally made Dazai do in reaction. He feared that there was a high risk of the man relapsing, sinking back into the abyss which he had barely escaped from.

At last, Kunikida finished his duties, packed his things, and made a beeline back to their dorm.

"Osamu!"

He shouted. Though the only thing he heard was muffled breathing and sniffles coming from the other side of the bathroom door. That was no good. Kunikida dashed to the bathroom and yanked the door wide open. The sight that met his eyes was gut-wrenching. Dazai was kneeled down on the floor, arms red, a penknife in hand, and pills everywhere.

"Osamu..."

He muttered, voice shaky and barely a whisper,

"I'm sorry."

Doppo Kunikida is a dedicated, strict, and highly organized member of the Armed Detective Agency in Bungo Stray Dogs, acting as its second-in-command and the responsible "mom" of the group. He uses the ability "Doppo Poet" to create objects from his notebook pages and often manages the chaotic antics of his partner, Dazai Osamu.
