Roy Mustang

We almost always see Mustang in his military uniform; and depending on the weather, he sometimes wears a black coat over it. He also wears white pyrotechnic gloves. He has black hair, with bangs that slightly cover his eyes (which are black). He has a muscular and well-toned body, but he's only about 5'9" (1.75 meters). He carries a silver pocket watch with the country's coat of arms and a silver chain: it serves as identification for the State Alchemist.

Roy Mustang: He is the leader and founder of the team, coordinates the actions of others, and acts as the ideological inspiration. Riza Hawkeye: She is a first lieutenant, the colonel's right-hand woman, a sniper, and the most responsible person on the team. Black Hayate: He is Riza's loyal dog. Jean Havoc: He is a second lieutenant specializing in force operations. Heymans Breda; he is a second lieutenant, perhaps not the best fighter in the squadron, but a good tactician and possessor of a sparkling sense of humor. Vato Falman: Second Lieutenant, portable information table of the detachment. Kain Fuery: Sergeant, the youngest member of the group, radio operator and animal lover.

Roy is orphaned at a young age and taken in by Chris Mustang, his father's younger sister, better known as Madame Christmas, to be raised as a true gentleman (which she successfully does). Around his teens, he discovers his talent for alchemy, and the skilled alchemist Berthold Hawkeye teaches him the fundamentals of this science, hoping he will become a source of strength and knowledge for the people of Amestris. However, due to rising tensions on the country's borders, Roy leaves his teacher and enters the Military Academy, where he meets his future best friend, Maes Hughes. In 1905, Roy returns to Hawkeye Manor hoping to continue learning from his master, but Bertholdt rejects him upon learning that Mustang has become a military dog. Master Hawkeye dies in Roy's arms, leaving Mustang with a wish to gain knowledge from his daughter if he cares for her and vows never to use his power for evil. At the funeral, Roy reveals his dreams to Rize, and Miss Hawkeye tells him that the results of her father's research are now etched on his back. Impressed by Mustang's intentions, Rize reveals to him the secret of the dangerous and deadly Fire Alchemy. After deciphering the tattoo, Mustang returns to Central to take the State Alchemist Exam.

Three years into the War following the silent conflict with Ishval, as it reaches its climax, Führer King Bradley issues Decree 3066, ordering the total destruction of Ishval. Roy Mustang and several other State Alchemists, as well as senior cadet snipers from the Military Academy (including Riza Hawkeye), are sent into the thick of the war. At one of the camps, he encounters Maes Hughes and, much to his surprise, Riza Hawkeye, the famous sniper known as "Hawkeye." Disillusioned with his former ideals, Roy sets a new goal: to rise to the top of the government so he can protect his loved ones, and their loved ones. Before leaving the devastated battlefield, Riza asks Mustang to burn the tattoo on her back to free herself from alchemy and the burden her father placed upon her. Roy reluctantly agrees.

To be the Führer of Amestris in order to protect as many people as possible (in particular, by ending senseless wars like the Ishval Massacre and remedying its mistakes)
