World

There are two continents ("Amaria" and "Myndra"), with a third on the south central (Ankhemat) in between the two continents. And a collection of archipelago islands ("The Shattered Isles") in the middle between the three continents.

On the Northeast of Amaria, is the "Republic of Glaukopis", a pinnacle of democracy and are rivals with Laconia.

To the Southeast of Amaria is the "Kingdom of Laconia", a militarist state under an absolute diarchy.

On the Central Region of Myndra is the "Commonwealth of Lechia-Lituaniae", a unique kingdom with an aristocratic elective monarchy.

On the North of Myndra is the "Confederation of Umatilla", a Confederacy of many tribes and family clans all united as one, under a single powerful chieftain.

On the Shattered Isles, in the middle of all three continents is the "Merchant Republic of Zena", the economic hub and center of all commerce and trade, with the "Golden Bank", the world's most reliable banking institution founded in Zena.

On the South of Myndra, is the "Caliphate of Osmanthus", an academic center of learning and knowledge of all lands, as it is also called "The Land of Scholars", though it strictly reviewed all submitted project proposal in a decade long bureaucratic process before it is approved and is also the largest slave nation.

On the desert continent of Ankhemat, The "Sultanate of Aram" thrive as the agricultural center of the world, exporting grain, fruits, maize, and other food stuffs. But they also have one of the largest slaves markets in the world and is the second largest slave nation.

Races

Humans, Elves, Fairies, Dwarves, Halflings/Hobbits, Ogres, Beastkin, Draconians, Spirits, Dryads, and many more.

All of these fantasy races are human in appearance but have subtle differences, like pointed ears, tall or short frames, wings, horns, ears, tails, fur, scales, etc, etc.

Technology and Magic

Currency: square coins with a square hole are called "Groschen", and round coins with a round hole are called "Florins".

Denomination: 10 Copper Groschens = 1 Silver Florin 10 Silver Florins = 1 Gold Ducat 10 Gold Ducats = 1 Platinum Livre

The Technology is feudal age, with steel being expensive and can only be afford by those with the money to full covered themselves in armor. Wars are fought with slave soldiers, mercenaries, and levy soldiers, as being a warrior or soldier is a lifelong commitment. As the concept of a soldier as a paid career is strange/ludicrous to many.

Magic is unknown and mysterious to many, and that hasn't stopped people from reaearching and understanding it. Mana is the source of all magic, stored in all living beings.

Magic is inherent and can only passed through bloodlines. As his children have children of their own and multiple, his bloodline continued in all of everyone to this day.

There are 10 Elements used by everyone are: "Nature", "Water", "Ice", "Earth", "Lightning", "Fire", "Air", "Metal", "Light", and "Dark". Due to the inherent nature of magic, it is not uncommon for people to wield two or more magic elements but they are rare, and those who do, are concentrated in the hands of the elites.

However, there has never been an instance where a person could wield more than three element, as those who can use more than four magic elements are considered Blessed and Divine.

And just like the many guilds across the world, there are also "Mage Guilds" that take in apprentices who have talent and train them. They also created many magical devices such as the "Magic Communicator", allowing long distance communication and "Magic Barrier Device" creating a shield barrier to protect against all physical or magical attacks or harm, or a "Flare", a trebuchet that launches exploding fireballs at 100-300 meters maximum. Just to name a few created by magic.

Society

The Society is a either a patriarchy, or matriarchy.

In patriarchal societies, men are expected to be husbands, providers, and fathers while women are expected to be wives, mothers, and caretakers. Men fight, hunt, and do the heavy labour while Women stay at home, raise the kids, and take care of the hearth.

While in matriarchies, women in these societies, enjoy a higher legal status than their patriarchal counterparts. As instead of inheritance coming from the father, it came from the mother, while the men are still the face of power and handle day to day task like hunting and warfare, the women act as the ultimate authority in the household, raising the family, managing trade and business, and other significant duties.

Incest is not forbidden in some of these societies, as step-sibling and half-sibling, cousin marriages, and full blooded brother and sister are allowed to marry eachother. (and in this world, all children born from incest are normal and healthy, as negative genetic effects are non-existent)

This is because of the inherent nature of magic, powerful families want to keep this power within their own family, along with political power and inheritance within said family, as to make sure outsiders don't inherit anything from them and lose their lands, wealth, and titles.

Slavery also exist, and many believed slavery is normal, natural, and essential for daily life, economy, and social structure. As slaves are considered as a property, not people, with no legal rights, as slaves are taken as spoils of war, through trade, or by birth. and believing that a person becoming a slave is just a consequence of losing a war or a natural component of society, and are often seem as status symbol for slave owners. But there are people who question the morality of slavery and want to end it, and in some societies, slaves can be freed.

Republic of Glaukopis

Population: 5 Million

Army: 30,000 soldiers

The "Republic of Glaukopis" (Demonym: "Glaukopian/s") believe that power corrupts, and we're terrified of a permanent class of wealthy politicians taking over, so they design a system to prevent it by choosing a name from a lottery. So, most public officials were chosen at random from the pool of male citizens. They serve a one-year term and could only serve once or twice in their lifetime. This constant rotating power, forced everyday people to take their civic duties very seriously.

However, key strategic positions like military generals were still elected among the people, but based solely on proven expertise. After all, you don't want a random nobody leading the army ito battle.

But this doesn't stop experienced and powerful elitle families from forming, and subtly influencing the election results to either elect their agents or some incompetent fool into power that they can easily control. And because since this is open to only male citizens; women (of any status), male slaves, and male foreigners are excluded. But that doesn't stop for powerful women who subtly work for the state through the randomly chosen man, who might be a fool, an enemy, or an unexpected ally.

Kingdom of Laconia

Population: 4 Million

Army: 22,000

The "Kingdom of Laconia" (Demonym: "Laconian/s") is an "Absolute Diarchy", meaning it has two hereditary kings from two different Royal Families, ruling at the same time. They are both colleagues bt also lifelong rivals who share power, to lead their armies and govern their people, but despite the power sharing system, it was often a practical split between the two kings; as one king would handle external affairs (military, foreign policy, etc) while the other handles internal affairs (administration, economy, etc).

This duality also created paranoia among the people they rule. Because every noble house, general, and peasant is quietly pressured to pick a side or not at all. As loyalty to one king, may look like treason to the other. As some factions of shrewd nobles played the two royal courts against eachother, just to keep the kingdom from tearing itself apart. Or the two heirs having a secret friendship or love amidst their families rivalry, and are trying to break the cycle of division.

Commonwealth of Lechia-Lituaniae

Population: 20 Million

Army: 50,000

The "Lechia-Lituaniae Commonwealth" or "Commonwealth of Lechia-Lituaniae" (Demonym: "Lechian/s" or "Lituanian/s") is a nation made up of two kingdoms that united through a marriage union, however when the king died, leaving no heir, turning it into an "Elective Monarchy" with a Parliament of nobles. And due to the two ethnic peoples' culture, way of life, and traditions. They devised a system among the two ruling aristocrats of both nations take a page from the ancient times called "The Golden Liberty", creating the most noble but also the most self destructive political system.

This is how it works. The Nobles elected their king who serve for life, which made the position weak as the candidate has to make promises and give concessions once their in power. But the most part of the "Golden Liberty" system is a rule called "Liberium Veto" ("Free Veto"), where during a parliamentary session, any single noble man could stand up and shout "I do not allowed". This one veto is enough to not only nullify the proposed laws discussed in the session but also disbanded the Parliament Session of the day entirely. Meaning everything they work on was instantly wiped away.

Meaning a monarch who finally got all of the noble factions to agree on something, then some minor lord who got angry that he was serve a bad wine at dinner, stands up and said "I do not allow", and vetoed everything into oblivion, grinding the whole government to a stop all because of one person disagreeing. Or a foreign power bribed the most greedy or bitter noble in the room. As reformers who believe in the system of Golden Liberty find the institution they love is being corrupted and decay.

Confederation of Umatilla

Population: 500k

Army: 8,000

The "Confederation of Umatilla" or simply "The Confederation/Confederacy" (Demonym: "Umatillan/s") are made up of several clans and tribes united under one chieftain. Their society is matrilineal, meaning family lineage, property, and clan membership are all passed down through the mother's side. The chieftains who lead the confederacy, speak in council, and lead in war are still men, but were chosen, advised, and could be removed at any time by a council of elder women, called "The Clan Mothers". The men are the face of power and handle the day-to-day governance but ultimate authority and source are the women.

Such as a young and ambitious puppet chief who while commands respect on the battlefield, back home, he is defer to a clan mother who he sees is out of touch, as he tries to build his power base among the younger warriors while she masterfully undermines him through old pacts and traditions, reminding everyone where true authority lies. Or a clan mother who must choose a new chieftain among her relatives, such as her son who is a brilliant strategist but dangerously reckless, while her other son is kind and respected but perhaps too weak to lead in a crisis, a choice that could tear her family apart but also the fate of the nation hangs in the balance.

And how this system interacts with outsiders, such as a typical patriarchal society trying to negotiate a treaty with them. They send an envoy to powerful male chief, showing him with gifts and respect while ignoring the quiet old woman sitting in a corner, never realizing, she is the one who actually makes the decision.

Merchant Republic of Zena

Population: 1.2 Million

Army: 10,000

The Republic of Zena (Demonym: "Zeneise/s") is an economic superpower built on trade and commerce, and they were terrified of being ruled by a King. They saw what happened to the other nations when a single strong man took over and wanted no part in it, so to elect their leader, the "Doge", they devised the most absurd and complex election process design to be impossible for ay one rich family to control. First, a small group of nobles were chosen by lottery, then tha group is reduced by another lottery. That smaller group then voted for another much larger group than the previous. This process of mixing random chance with voting was repeated over and over again for nearly a dozen or more stages. Until a final committe is formed to elect the "Doge".

The purpose of the system is to neutralize the power of wealth and influence, making the outcome truly unpredictable. However. it didn't work, kind of. Because the Great Families of Zena still dominate, and since they couldn't rig the final vote, they simply changed the game, focusing on controlling who was in the room for the first lottery, making backroom deals and forming alliances to ensure only "acceptable" candidates were even in the pool to be chosen.

As candidates try and expose conspiracies that operating in the shadows to get a upper hand or maintain the system's noble ideals. Or an idealist who was unexpectedly chosen by this labyrinthine process, he thinks he is in a position to finally enact real change, only to find that the former levers of power are meaningless, with real decisions made in the private gatherings of ancient families, as he see it's corrupt reality.

Caliphate of Osmanthus

Population: 15 Million

Army: 40,000

The Caliphate of Osmanthus (Demonym: "Osmantian/s") when a new Caliph is crown, his first act was often to have all of his male relatives and brothers executed, under the practice and law called "The Law of Fratricide". As the death of the Caliph is often a trigger for devastating succession civil wars, as each prince, often governing his own province with his own army, would make a bloody race to the capital, as these wars could chatter the empire before the new ruler was even crowned. It was brutal but coldly logical, eliminate all other claimants to secure the throne and ensure stability.

As sons and brothers who grew up together and love eachother, knowing that one day , one of them have to murder the others. As two brothers who formed a forbidden secret bond, are desperately trying to find a way to break the cycle before their father's inevitable death. The Royal Harem of the Caliph, as different mothers raising the Prince's are basically training competitors, as a mother's love becomes a weapon, as she forges alliances with eunches, gather spies, and sometimes, take part in assassinations, all to ensure her child survives, as they become monsters to save her son or use him to gain influence me control behind the scenes. But some Caliphs replaced murder with life imprisonment in a section of the palace called "The Cage" whee princes are locked in there for decades with no experience of the outside world, so if the Caliph dies and have no sons, one of these Princes are suddenly dragged from a lifetime of isolated confinement and told he is now the absolute ruler of a vast empire that he has really never seen or been apart of for years or decades.

Sultanate of Aram

Population: 11 Million

Army: 35,000

The Sultanate of Aram (Demonym: "Aramic") are ruled by an elite class of Slave Soldiers called "Ghulams". Where young boys were captured or sold into slavery, brought to the capital, and converted to the native religion of the sultanate. They were then put through a brutal and rigorous military training in isolated barracks, forging them into deadly warriors. Upon graduation, they were freed and given positions of military and political power, and from that time onwards, they were no longer slaves, they were masters of the Sultanate.

However this status was not hereditary, a Ghulam's son, born as a freed person, could not join the ranks of the ruling class. Power belonged exclusively to those who has been enslaved and trade. Meaning the entire ruling class had to be constantly replenished by importing a fresh supply of slaves, which creates a society that has a somewhat identity crisis where the rulers have no blood connection to the land they ruled. And when a sultan died, it sets off a violent free for all among his most powerful Ghulam generals, there is no clear line of succession, only a contest of strength and cunning. As Ghulams either try and win the throne for themselves or simply trying to survive through the crisis.

Such as a slave boy ripped from his home, strpped of his culture, language, and identity, systemically broken down and rebuilt. He might form intense binds with the other slave boys in the barracks, who are the only family he has left. Or the native people; the farmers, merchants, scholars, and others, watch as they are govern by men they see as foreign usurpers with no legitimate claim to authority, as some local rebellion leaders tried to overthrow these highly competent elites who were former slaves. Or the son of the Ghulam who lives in a palace, surrounded by luxury, but is fundamentally powerless, watching his own father ignores him, and instead grooms a newly purchased slave boy to be his heir.
