World

"Caligo" is a large continent solely made up of many archipelagoes. And because of maritime trade across all nations, piracy and banditry are common place in both sea and land.

(East Asian) To the West is the largest island is "Yàzhōu" with four main islands and 100 active volcanoes, regularly spewing ash and lava, cause of which the land has the richest soil out of all lands, is called the "Breadbasket" of the world, with many surrounding islands.

(Polynesian) To the East are the rocky islands, a volcanic chain of islands called "Mar Magellan" or "The Line of Fire" with semi nomadic tribes migrating between these islands, raiding their clans or tribe for resource or for trading rights in the region. With the islands of "Whulge" (North), "Klaskish" (Central), and "Mar Del Sur" (South).

(North European) To the South are the Second Largest Archipelago, with the Eastern "Golden Isles" (Consisting of three islands: "Pretani" (main island), "Alba" (East of Pretani), and "Èirinn" (A bit Northwards and in between Pretani and Alba) and Western "Twin Islands of Scania" (Two Islands: "Götaland" (mainland) and "Åland" (1/4 the size of Götaland) separated by a narrow strait, called "the Skane Bay" and a bit to the Northwest separated by the "Livonian Sea" is "Livonia" (close to Götaland at 300km, and is 1/3 the size of Götaland).

(Southeast Asian) To the North is the largest archipelago called "Nusantara" with 50,000 Islands and have 350 active volcanes, with many kingdoms and tribes, who traded with eachother and others outside of Nusantara, as they trade spices to the outside world, and nicknamed "Spice Islands" and grew immensely wealthy by having ships pay tolls and tributes to pass in their waters, and they also have fertile rice terrace where the volcano fertilize the terraces, allowing some kingdoms to sustain a large manpower fto plant, harvest and maintain their agriculture and also using that same population for either conquest or building projects.

Technology

The people of Caligo is classical age to early medieval, with bronze and iron weapons and tools, but steel is becoming somewhat common but expensive as they learn how to smelt iron better but don't know how to make it consistently.

The weapons used by everyone are the spear, sword, axe, and bow and arrow, along with war clubs, maces, polearm, and other related weapons. Crossbows exist but they are not common due to high production cost, slow firerate, and logistical challenges compare to traditional bows.

Architecture is made out of wood and stone, with East Asian, Southeast Asian, Polynesian, and North European Cultures.

The Societies of each land is different or mixed, as they either have a Patriarchy, or "Partnership Society" (basically, a society where it is not a patriarchy or matriarchy).

And of course, due to the vast waters and oeans of this world, The Common Military is centered around the Navy with the Army as secondary for some clans or tribes. From specialized canoes and ragts to large wooden longships or galleys, that are design either for sails, oars, or both (oars for combat or maneuvering and sails for long distance travel).

The Currency used by everyone is silver and gold in the West, North, and South. While the East used sea shells as their currency.

Religion

The main religion is a polytheistic folk religion, centered around the worship of the "Twin Goddesses": "Sedna", Goddess of the Sea, Oceans, and Sea Animals. And "Macha", Goddess of the Land, Nature, and Animals. And as such they are also "Goddess of Fishing" and "Goddess of Agriculture" respectively. As the world is created by the "All-Mother", a Primordial Goddess who has split herself into two halves (Sedna and Macha), creating the sea and land as their domain.

Other notable Gods are: "Illapa", the God of War, Magic, Weather, and Lightning/Thunder. Brother-husband to Macha

"Lono", the God of Peace, Love, Festivals, and Music. Brother-husband to Sedna.

Another Major Religion is the "Spirit Lord", spiritual, animistic, and non dogmatic religion. The name of this monotheistic God has been forgetton but he has always been refer to as "The Master" or "The Overlord", as worshippers believe that out of the void and nothingness where time is non-existent. Alone and gazing upon the emptiness, he decided to create something out of the nothing as he created two worlds: "Creation" and "Spirit", and connecting the two worlds are a pathway called "The Laws". The Creation World carrying mortal flesh and blood, while the Spirit World carries the mind and soul.

Last Major Religion is the "Devourer of Gods", a blood religion where the people believe they are made out of the dead flesh of a God, and as such viewed themselves as superior culturally and religious. As they practice human sacrifice and cannibalism, as they believe human blood sustains their god, "Airsekoui". And their weapons are design to capture an enemy, not kill them, so they can sacrifice them to Airsekoui. As worshippers believe Airsekoui, God of the Sun, War, Death, and Agriculture died giving his flesh and blood to create the world.

Society

The Society is a either a patriarchy or gender equal.

With the West and South being more male dominated with men expected to be husbands, providers, and fathers while women are expected to be wives, mothers, and caretakers. Men fight, hunt, and do the heavy labour while Women stay at home, raise the kids, and take care of the hearth.

While the East and North are gender equal. As women in these societies, enjoy a higher legal status than their counterparts. As filial piety, respect for community harmony, and ancestor worship are a big part of their society, along with a deep village level community and organization, which operated under a blend of customary laws, and are known water-based livelihoods and agriculture.

Incest is not forbidden in some of these societies, such as the West allowing cousin marriages and step-sibling marriages, while the South, step-sibling and half-sibling marriages are the norm. In the North, only Cousin marriages are allowed, while in the East, they not only just allowed Cousin, Step-sibling, and Half-sibling marriages but also marriages between full blooded brother and sister. (Negative effects of incest don't exist)

This is because of the inherent nature of magic, powerful families want to keep this power within their own family, along with political power and inheritance within said family, as to make sure outsiders don't inherit anything from them and lose their lands, wealth, and titles.

Slavery exist, and many believed slavery is normal, natural, and essential for daily life, economy, and social structure. As slaves are considered as a property, not people, with no legal rights, as slaves are taken as spoils of war, through trade, or by birth. They believe that a person becoming a slave is just a consequence of losing a war or a natural component of society, and are often as status symbol for slave owners. But there are people who question the morality of slavery and want to end it, and in some societies, slaves can be freed.

Magic

Magic is unknown and mysterious to many. But some managed to learn the basic elements of magic. First, discovered by a man called "The First Master", his name forgetten but legend said he was a Demi-God, half human and half-god, who with his wife "The First Mistress" have seven children, each learn a specific aspect of their father and spread across the world.

As Magic is inherent and can only passed through bloodlines. As his children have children of their own and multiple, his bloodline continued in all of everyone to this day.

The Seven Elements used by everyone are: "Nature", "Earth", "Lightning", "Fire", "Air", "Metal", and "Water". Due to the inherent nature of magic, it is not uncommon for people to wield two or more magic elements but they are rare, and those who do, are concentrated in the hands of the elites who sponsored their education or marry them into their family (with some looking down on their for their commoner status).

However, there has never been an instance where a person could wield more than two element, as they inherit the element from either parent.

Naval Warfare

(The concept of a solder as a paid profession does not exist, as these are either levies or dedicated warrior who trained since birth. They are either paid in grain/rice or gold/silver, as for a common man, the pay is either low or none at all)

The Ships used by every civilization is different, some are just canoes or rafts with sails or oars, ranging from large to small. Or Longships and Galleys using both oars and sails. But most ships used for naval combat are mostly just converted merchant vessels, there are few dedicated warships.

Naval Warfare works in one of two ways: Ramming the enemy ship with iron rams on their ends, or boarding their ship to capture it, and fighting melee to melee. In Naval Warfare, the goal is to not sink/destory the enemy ship but to capture them, so you can use it again on your side in the war. Destroyed ships that sink under the sea are just ships that can't be captured or are too badly damaged.

The common propulsion for ships uses by everyone, both military and civilian are oars (for speed/maneuverability) and sails (for long distance) for travel, these are two methods for ships to travel, and some were designed as hybrids, aka to using both, oars and sails for travel.

Plank-built boats are the common type of ships build by everyone, as they are either the fast, agile, and shallow-draft warships with oars and a small square sail/s or civilian merchant ships that have wider hulls and sails for travel. Ships that use oars needed simple or complex seating arrangements.

Such galleys either have paid professionals, free citizens (of low social class), or soldiers as rowers as they were required to have a high degree of skill and training to pull and row in unison for maneuvering and ramming. Though, slaves were also used as rowers but they were only used as a last resort in extreme emergencies, such as during war where most of the free men will be fighting, and were often granted their freedom in exchange for their service.

Race

The Race that exist here on Caligo are Human but unlike humans from earth. The humans on this world have a different skin colour corresponding to their element: Green Skin (Nature), Brown skin (Earth), Purple skin (Lightning), Red skin (Fire), White/Pale skin (Air), Grey Skin (Metal), and Blue skin (Water).

And the humans of this world can live up to 350 years maximum, due to the excess use of magic over the millennium.

West (East Asian)

On Yàzhōu, there are three kingdoms who vie for supremacy on their homeland: Shogunate of Akashiro (Japan), Tàndōng Dynasty (China), and Kingdom of Gura (Korea).

The three nations fought eachotherfor the unification of Yàzhōu. As Tàndōng and Akashiro believed they are the supreme nation with better culture, customs, and traditions, and firmly believing the other could benefit from their way of life. While Gura is a neutral third party that has expanded considerably while the two powers wage war against eachother and now, the Kingdom of Gura can stand toe to toe with Tàndōng and Akashiro, continuing this three way war.

Shogunate of Akashiro: Military Dictatorship under the Shogun with a figurehead emperor who performs ceremonial and religious duties as the divine head protest of their religion.

Tàndōng Dynasty: Imperial Bureaucratic Monarchy with the Emperor as the Divine representative of the Gods under the "Mandate of Leadership" if the emperor becomes corrupt or a natural disaster happen, the people believe it is a sign that the current emperor must be overthrown and replaced with a new dynasty.

on the Archipelago of Nusantara, are the Spice Lords of Nusantara. These Sultanates and Kingdoms built their empire on trade and agriculture, and are one of the wealthiest nations and also one of the most spiritual. The Sultanates and kingdoms of Nusantara are all hereditary absolute monarchies and autocracies.

On the Western Region, controlling the straits and sea lanes to the West is the "Sultanate of Sulu", dominating shipping lanes, controlling nearby coastal regions, and the sea routes between the West and Nusantara, as Ships have to pay tolls to them in order to pass through their waters.

In the Central Region of Nusantara, is the "Sultanate of Sumatra", controlling the one of largest central island of Nusantara, and have vast rice terraces and irrigation systems, and have one of the largest population on Nusantara.

In the Eastern Region, is the "Kingdom of Melaka", and they have a mixed of both agricultural and maritime economy. Unlike Sulu and Sumatra, Melaka doesn't have a vast population or control of a wealthy maritime route, instead they have one of the largest temple structures dedicated to their Gods, which almost bankrupted themselves as pilgrims all over Nusantara and beyond would come to their temple, climb it's 25 Floors and pray or meditate on each floor, one floor for each God.

On the Mar Magellan, there are many nomadic and settled tribes, and these tribes both war and raided eachother but also traded and made alliances with eachother. These are hereditary chiefdoms, with their lineage stretching back to a common ancestor. They are a highly spiritualistic and culturally close as they have a deep sense of community. They also have no metallurgy (aka no iron, steel, or cooper weapons) or any stone buildings, they also don't have cavalry. And have no formal military, only tribal warriors who trained their whole life and come to fight, using whatever natural weapons they can make (clubs, shark teeth, bine, and stone).

The Prominent Tribes are the "Rapa Nui" (Whulge), "Tuvaluan" (Whulge), "Maori" (Whulge), "Lapita" (Klaskish), "Tongans" (Klaskish), "Tahitian" (Klaskish), "Kānaka" (Mar Del Sur), "Maoli" (Mar Del Sur), and "Niueans" (Mar Del Sur).
