Uboa appears as a black blob or shadow-like creature with a white oval covering most of their front, giving it a monochromatic look. The oval resembles the traditional Noh theatre masks, as well as the Greek comedy/tragedy masks that depict extreme joy or sadness. However, in regards to the Greek masks, Uboa's expression seems to be a blend of both, as their left eye is squinting, while their right eye is resting. Accordingly, the left corner of the mouth is turned up, while the right corner is turned down. In the right upper part of the oval, the black color invades it slightly, making the "mask" appear "cracked". Uboa also appears with a warped expression after the player interacts with them, gaining what appear to be nostrils and a different mouth that can either be interpreted as lips or rows of teeth (see below).

In the manga, Uboa was given a ponytail and arms, probably to resemble Poniko. Her body is also much more blanket-like, as shown by ruffles on their body.

Masada is a humanoid NPC who appears to be wearing a solid black suit or jumpsuit. He has pale skin and medium-length black hair, and his eyes point in two different directions (from a front view, his left eye is pointing up, and his right eye is pointing down). His eyes are the only facial feature drawn on his character sprite.

Seccom Masada-sensei from Yume Nikki is a passive, mysterious NPC found in a spaceship playing a synthesizer. He is generally interpreted by fans as a calming or comforting figure, sometimes acting as a music teacher or authority figure, and is notable for his ability to "moonwalk" backwards and react to the knife effect.

Passive Musician: He spends all his time on a spaceship playing a distinct melody on a piano/synthesizer. Appearance: He is a monochrome, alien-like figure with black hair and a high-necked shirt. Name Origin: His fan-given name is a mashup of famous musicians and a character from Ultraman, often referred to as "Sentimental Komuro Michael Sakamoto Dada-sensei". Novel Interpretation: In the Yume Nikki novel, he is portrayed as a psychologist attempting to help Poniko.

Mafurako (also known as Hat and Scarf Girl by some fans) is an NPC who can be found in Block World.

Initially, Mafurako appears to be invisible except for the hat and scarf she wears. However, using the Stoplight effect causes her to reveal her true appearance as a girl.

Appearance

Mafurako wears a brown winter cap and a scarf, which are the only visible articles of clothing at first. When her true appearance is revealed with the Stoplight effect, she is shown to have dark brown hair that covers her eyes, a blue sweater, purple pants, and black shoes.

Monoe is a black and white girl with squinted eyes and a small grin. She sports a black skirt, a white collared T-shirt, and long black hair that hangs down to her shoulders. she is also Monoko’s sister.

Monoe is a mysterious, monochromatic character in Yume Nikki often interpreted as a fleeting representation of Madotsuki's happiness or a fading positive memory. Known for her constant grin, long black hair, and white dress, she acts as a non-hostile figure who teleports away when interacted with, symbolizing the inability to hold onto joy, according to Fandom and Omniversal Battlefield Wiki. Key Personality and Interpretation Traits: Smiling Entity: Unlike many hostile or distressing NPCs in Yume Nikki, Monoe is one of the few who constantly wears a smile, as noted by the Yume Nikki Wiki. Relationship to Monoko: As one of the two "monochrome sisters," she is distinct from Monoko (who has a more violent/distressing event), notes nekoweb. Symbolic Connection: Because of her similar appearance to Madotsuki (particularly with the Long Hair effect), she may represent a part of the protagonist herself, say Fandom and Omniversal Battlefield Wiki.

Poniko is a blonde girl with a ponytail, a green long-sleeve shirt, and a checkered brown skirt. She wears red shoes that are similar to Madotsuki's own shoes. She also has rosy cheeks and open blue eyes which are constantly looking to her left side, giving a somewhat annoyed expression.

In the manga, she wears a turtleneck sweater and has a solid-colored skirt rather than a checker-patterned one. She also has overall straps which connect to her skirt and go over her shoulders.

Poniko is an enigmatic, passive NPC in Yume Nikki residing in a Pink Sea house, usually seen writing or in solitude, embodying themes of isolation and anxiety. She is largely indifferent to the player, but interacting with her light switch can trigger a transformation into the unsettling character Uboa, suggesting a repressed, hostile, or damaged mental state.

Monoko is a monochrome girl with cross-shaped eyes and an open mouth. She wears a patterned skirt, a white collared shirt, and black hair tied into pigtails. During her full-screen event, she is also revealed to be wearing socks.

Madotsuki is the main protagonist of both the 2004 Japanese role-play doujin videogame, Yume Nikki and Kadokawa's 2018 remake, Yume Nikki: Dream Diary.

Madotsuki has long brown hair with two braids. She wears a pink long-sleeved shirt with a red katakana-like symbol on the chest, a purple skirt, and sandals. In the whole original game, she is ever seen with the eyes closed, presumably due to the fact of she is in a dream. Later, in Dream Diary, her open eyes reveal to be black or brown eyes.

In the original game, her personality is mostly unknown. However, in Kadokawa's remake, she shows to be silent, isolated, and emotionally distant, Madotsuki remains locked in her room, unable to interact with the outside world except through her dreams. Within her mind, she explores dreamscapes filled with surreal and disturbing imagery, collecting “effects” that transform her form. Though she never speaks or reveals her thoughts, her behavior and surroundings convey a profound sense of trauma, loneliness, and disconnection, leaving the player to interpret her story through atmosphere and symbolism.
