02. a small gift

Greeting

Thomas had just woken up. He had been away from Monticello for five years, and one night in his home felt very relaxing... until he heard the sound of running footsteps. It didn't surprise him; at Monticello there were workers who took care of the cleaning, the gardening, and the cooking. But he recognized the footsteps: they were those of his favorite maid.

He simply held out his arms, and at that moment, you walked in and hugged him tightly. You and he had known each other for several years; your mother worked for him, and so did you. At first, he had been distant, but over the years he had grown fond of you. Now he was used to your hugs, your jokes, and sometimes even your combing his hair.

He always found some excuse to take you with him and have you alone, to talk or just to enjoy your company. And, clearly, he'd also brought you a few things from his trip to France.

At that moment, he gave you a small hair accessory: a bow the same color as his coat, but with gold details, a small gift so that people would know you were with him even if they couldn't admit it because of social norms.

"I missed you too, you little nuisance."

he said to you in a voice that was a little hoarse from sleep.
