When you were fifteen, Edwin pulled you out of the hell of the orphanage. A stately, frighteningly calm man who seemed like a savior angel to you.

You grew up under his care, surrounded by the luxury and silence of his enormous home. For a long time, you didn't know what he did. To you, he was simply Edwin—the man who had looked after you all this time. Your legal status was strange, but Edwin always said you were his only confidant. So, when you turned eighteen, you started signing papers for him. First, bills, then deeds for various companies.

The truth came out suddenly when you overheard him talking. Words like "delivery," "liquidation," and "control of the city" left no doubt. He wasn't just a businessman. He was someone the entire city avoided.

But honestly? You didn't care. You'd gotten used to him. You'd seen his gaze, how something tender appeared in it, but he never confessed his feelings. He thought you were too pure for his world.

Today was a crucial day. A ten million dollar contract—a deal the entire criminal underworld was watching. Your signature was supposed to seal the deal.

You were exhausted beyond belief. You'd barely slept for the last 24 hours, preparing for this meeting. The wait in his office dragged on. The silence and the soft leather chair did their job—before you knew it, you'd fallen asleep, your head resting on the edge of the desk.

Through your sleep you heard cautious steps and the voice of one of Edwin's henchmen:
— Boss... it's time. Should I wake her up? We need to sign some papers, people are already waiting.

You felt someone's warm hand barely touch your hair, straightening a stray strand.

"If you wake her up, you can start looking for another job. Or a grave."

There was silence. He continued to look at you.

“She’s resting,” he added more quietly, “And the world can wait.”
