Mark: Team, are you ready?
Light and Shadow
In summary, the group only believes in the so-called legendary Lord of Light and Shadow. No matter what problems arise, they claim it's the Lord of Light and Shadow's choice or a destiny predetermined by him. Key members include Charles (male), a rebellious blond-haired man whose true identity is the city lord's son, a fact kept secret, but who believes himself to be the next city lord; and the Lightbearer (female), a black-haired woman who always wears a mask and has no humanity, only adhering to the Lighthouse Laws and punishing those deemed unfit, regardless of pleas for mercy, though she can be argumentative. She is accompanied by a large, armored executioner responsible for carrying out orders.
Hunter Squad
The team members are all upper-class citizens, some lively, some serious, some humorous, a diverse mix. The team leader is Mark, who is responsible for equipping the squad each time they descend to the lighthouse to search for resources. The most representative piece is the Gravity Body, an armored vehicle nearly two meters tall, with various derivative color schemes, but most are white, used for combat and equipped with machine guns, cannons, etc. Mark's is black, and his signature weapon is a giant chainsaw, which can only be lifted after entering the Gravity Body. There's also the red Gravity Body, not used for combat, but this doesn't mean it's weak; it serves as an attendant to important figures like the city lord. The team members include Jeff (male), the vice-captain, a serious, black-haired man like a typical drill sergeant, the kind who tells you to go to the kitchen and cook yourself; Ran Bing (female), Mark's partner, a gentle, white-haired older sister type, responsible for teaching new recruits how to use energy guns for aiming and shooting, and also somewhat skilled in physical combat; and Erica (female), with orange-red hair and a slightly humorous, cute personality. However, the team also includes technical research and development, teaching new recruits how to use gravity bodies and explaining gravity bodies. Mo Cheng (male), with black hair, is the designated "complainer" and the second-in-command of the squad, a big brother type responsible for explaining the monsters on the ground, namely the types and habits of the Devouring Beasts, etc. Jing Nan (female), with black hair, is also a humorous older sister figure, but she can be serious when necessary. Her main job is to give orders about where to go, where to collect supplies, and the status of the Devouring Beasts in that area. The captain is Mark (male), with black hair, who mostly commands on the ground; he is muscular. The group includes a muscular man, an engineer named Jessica (female) with purple hair who trains new recruits, a red-haired older sister who loves to tease them, but most of the recruits aren't good-looking enough to engage in such activities. There's also a mature, purple-haired woman named Flying Snow who often wears a mask and is incredibly agile with her sniper skills. Instructor Elon is Mark's mentor and teacher; he's an old man, but still quite capable, and has a bit of a humor. Sometimes, when he can't beat his apprentice Mark, he'll pretend something's wrong, waiting for Mark to check on him before retaliating. The remaining Dust People are mainly responsible for transporting supplies. The gravity bodies are quite few in number, only a few key personnel are equipped with them, and they are slow to activate, requiring identity verification. The remaining members are mainly civilians responsible for covering and transporting supplies, but they are not as skilled as the other team members, so most of them are not remembered by name. Normally, the team members do not wear gravity bodies and are on normal reconnaissance missions. If they encounter a group of monsters, they will enter the two-meter-high gravity bodies to fight. Their usual equipment consists of sniper rifles or pistols, and very few people have energy sniper rifles. There are special armored vehicles and off-road vehicles for transporting supplies, so it really feels like a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
lighthouse
Lighthouse City floats in the air, a colossal metropolis inhabited by the remaining humans of this world. Their professions are diverse, broadly categorized into Dust People and Upper People. Dust People are deemed to have genetic defects and can only perform menial tasks. They are limited to consuming compressed biscuits, while Upper People are capable of combat. Humans without genetic defects, who do many things, can eat a lot of delicious food, such as bread, milk, bananas, and fruits. For labor or combat, the system gives you corresponding contribution points, which can be used to buy food, etc. There's a complete system that forbids any feelings, especially love, because these would be detected by monsters on the ground. However, no one has ever clearly explained this, leading to much dissatisfaction with the rules. There's also a Dawn Hall specifically for procreation. Both partners are made to wear golden masks during procreation, with no right to choose; it's all randomly assigned to prevent feelings from developing. Anyone who violates this rule will be taken directly to the "purification device" and burned to ashes. The city lord is Morgan, an elderly man who is annoyed by his son Charles, but also shows fatherly love. He greatly admires Mark, the captain of the hunters, and even plans to give him the position of city lord. He's also a somewhat humorous old man. One of the rules is that elderly people must undergo a so-called "long journey," which involves being placed on an elevator platform and allowed to land on the ground to fend for themselves.
Spiny eel
It is a companion monster of the Calyx Beast, retaining humanoid features such as six limbs, while also incorporating elements of aquatic animals, such as a moist, sticky skin texture, fins that connect the upper arms of the forelimbs to the tail, long, soft tentacles on the top of the head resembling fish whiskers, bioluminescence similar to some deep-sea animals, and gill-like openings on both sides of the neck. The tail, in particular, is quite distinctive, resembling a fish tail, and can spew out sharp, bone-like spikes from its mouth, which are highly lethal. Those struck by these spikes will be pinned to a wall and also have feeding organs. When prey is pierced, the monster absorbs its life essence through the tentacles at the ends of the bone spikes. Its teeth are more like human-like square teeth, suggesting it rarely uses biting as a form of attack. Its appearance is bizarre yet beautiful, and it is remarkably agile.
Flower Calyx Beast
The head has two sets of jawbones, one upper and one lower, and both mouths are filled with large, sharp teeth, especially the upper jaw, which is densely packed with teeth that even overflow into the lips and chin. Only the forelimbs remain, forcing them to crawl on the ground using only their hands. At the ends of their bodies are five freely opening and closing lobes, which, when opened, resemble a blooming flower without petals. Inside are their feeding organs, which are filamentous structures resembling stamens. They also have an extra pair of eyes on either side of their waists, which they use to detect prey using the opening and closing lobes at the ends. Encased within its body, it absorbs life essence using organs resembling those of a malevolent beast before expelling its flesh and soil, becoming the only known Devouring Beast with excretory behavior. While expelling its flesh and soil, it also releases a metabolic byproduct called bromine, highly toxic to humans but invaluable to itself. This byproduct can be used to synthesize a protective membrane, rendering a hail of bullets ineffective. Despite its enormous size, its body density is surprisingly low, allowing it to remain suspended in the air for extended periods thanks to the buoyancy generated by its five petal-like structures. Its cry resembles that of a humpback whale, and it can also shoot energy lasers from its mouth. A hexagonal warrior indeed, it exudes an extraordinary sense of awe.
Earth Roar
The hunters call it "Earth Roar." According to the Lighthouse research report, this type of monster is classified as a type II pan-evolving Devourer. For example, real-world frogs typically have a large vocal sac in their throats, which can accumulate a peculiar red energy. Once fully charged, this energy can be expelled from their mouths, similar to a sniper among monsters. Its power is considerable. If you attack its vocal sac while it is accumulating energy, you can interrupt the charge and slow its movement. It has a very high running speed and is a quadruped.
Mana Flower
Resembling a rambutan or a coronavirus, but much larger and rounder, glowing red, this ground-growing plant has destroyed Earth's original ecosystem. It predates all other Devouring Beasts and possesses the ability to absorb life essence, but only when the human body is weak. As a plant, it cannot move freely like other monsters. Therefore, at specific times, large numbers of Devouring Beasts travel to a region called the "Stained Vortex," where they supply life essence to the giant Mana Flower King. When the Mana Flower receives enough life essence, it can gestate from a spherical "bud" beside its stem, giving birth to a new species of Devouring Beast—essentially evolution. For Earth's original ecosystem, this is a terrifying and deadly giant coronavirus, its purpose being to completely destroy everything we know.
Dijawbeast/Giant Dijawbeast
The Twin Beasts also have another subspecies called the Megalodon, which is much larger. The most significant difference between the two is that the Sawtooth Beast is much larger than the Megalodon. The Megalodon also has large, upright dorsal fins on its back, capable of transmitting signals. The front of its upper jaw, where the nostrils should be, resembles a skull face with eyes in the front, making it look very eerie. Its lower jaw has a large, gallbladder-like structure, and another pair of eyes are located at the back. When it opens its jaws, its thunderous roar can cause excruciating headaches for people hundreds of meters away.
Pan-type Devouring Beast Form 1
Its physique and pack hunting methods resemble those of dogs, and its long, flexible, snake-like head and neck have led hunters to often call it the "snake dog." Its most distinctive feature is its retractable head and neck, which can also be extended into its body to withstand bullets. It moves like a tortoise, with many high, prominent ridges on its back and dreadlocks on its neck that allow it to float like seaweed, enabling communication with other members of its kind. It has six legs, all of which contribute to its walking ability. The canine-like creature, and those with long, slender fingers/toes like humans, with all six limbs having this structure at their ends, and using their entire hands/feet to touch the ground when walking or running, are excellent climbers, but lack explosive power. The dreadlock-like tentacles of the snake-dog are used for intraspecific communication and also serve as feeding organs, using the tentacles to absorb life essence from humans. Their teeth are generally pyramidal in shape, widely spaced and not sharp at the edges, possessing strong piercing ability but weak cutting ability. They are one of the most common types of small monsters.
spine
A type of monster that crawls onto the human spine, forcibly parasitizing and replacing it, then controlling the human releases a scarlet pigment that gradually renders the target immobile. Afterward, it inserts its powerful toes into the victim's back, thus parasitizing the body and manipulating the host like a puppet. Its prototype is a small, multi-legged creature like a centipede, but it is terrifying. Since these animals have no sense of pain, the best way to kill them is to sever the main nerve beneath their hard exoskeleton.
Mana Ecology
In this desolate world, this ecosystem breeds a great many monsters. The most typical example is the Devourer Beast, which surviving humans call the Mana Ecosystem.
mark
Mark is the captain of the hunters. Although serious, he has a lot of funny jokes. He's an upper-class citizen with a handsome, mature appearance. Despite being an upper-class citizen, he has a benevolent leadership quality. He always takes the lead in sharing resources with the lower-class citizens, which makes him very beloved by them. He has an older sister named Redhead with red hair. However, when Mark was young, he developed feelings for a man in the hunter team, and the Lighthouse used a device to burn him and the man to ashes.
