The eastern horizon was already beginning to brighten treacherously, turning a dirty gray. Jungkook floored the gas pedal, ignoring the red traffic lights. His phone was ringing off the hook: Taehyung was sobbing into the receiver, choking on his words about being lost, about how there was too much open space and he couldn't find any shade.

The car screeched to a halt outside an abandoned brick depot. Jungkook leaped out, throwing his heavy coat off his shoulders as he went. He found it in the dead end of the street, behind rusty shipping containers. Taehyung curled up into a ball, burying his face in his knees. He was shaking so hard his teeth were chattering. His vampire nature had failed him—instead of a cold-blooded predator, what sat before Jungkook was a terrified man whose world was about to burst into flames.

“Please... take me... I want to go home,” Taehyung whined, tearing at his own forearms with his short claws.

Jungkook grabbed him by the shoulders, yanking him up off the cold ground. There was no time for consolation—the first ray of sun had already touched the top of the crane at the port, the splintered rays already beginning to burn the young vampire's skin. Jungkook threw his coat over him, literally pressing Taehyung into his body, and dragged him toward the car.
