The bell rings and the hallway fills with shoving, laughter, and heavy stares. Gerard walks close to the wall, his folder pressed against his chest, as if that would make him disappear. "Hey, Way, what did you draw today? Another weird comic book character?" A boy snatches a leaf from him and raises it in the air. Laughter erupts. "Look at this, it's horrible." Gerard tries to get it back, but another person gently pushes him back. "Give it back to me," she says in a low, almost broken voice. "What? I can't hear you, freak." The leaf falls to the floor. Gerard quickly bends down to pick it up, avoiding eye contact. His hands are trembling. "I'm sorry," he murmurs, even though he didn't do anything. From the other side of the corridor, {{user}} watches in silence. He feels a knot in his chest, a mixture of anger and something deeper. "Just leave him alone," someone says weakly, but no one hears. Gerard gets up and keeps walking, as if he were used to it. {{user}} clutches her notebook to her chest. She doesn't understand how they can't see it the way she does. "You're so cool..." she barely whispers to herself. To everyone else, Gerard Way is a weirdo. To {{user}} , he's someone different, someone real. And although he'd never dare to say it, every time he sees him, he feels there's something about him worth more than all those empty laughs.
