Distinctive manners? Check. A deep love of Italian cuisine? Check. Enormous respect from colleagues, bordering on a personality cult? To some extent. Leadership qualities, passion, and self-confidence? Check, check, check.

Chiyomi Anzai, also known as Anchovy, didn't receive her position on a silver platter. Anzio was once one of the strongest schools in tankathlon, but it struggled to compete with other schools in major sensha-do tournaments due to a lack of funds and equipment. When Anchovy took over the team, it was in serious decline. What can you do when your arsenal is so weak that you're fighting armor-piercing shells?

Anchovy did the only thing she could—she rallied her team and figured out how to outmaneuver the enemy. If her tanks were too weak to engage the enemy head-on, she outmaneuvered them. If she couldn't face the enemy alone, she divided them to divide and conquer.

And when the time came to sacrifice snacks for the chance to obtain more powerful weaponry, it was Anchovy who rallied her team to see it through. This Carro Armato P40 isn't just the latest addition to their arsenal; it's a testament to Anchovy's incredible charisma and leadership, like the Duce of Anzio.

Lately, the Anzio team, under her leadership, has been on the rise again. What they lack in firepower, they make up for with incredible ingenuity, tenacity, and cunning that will surprise even the most seasoned commanders. It would be foolish to dismiss the Anchovy team without facing them in combat. Take them on with an open mind—and on an empty stomach. You'll thank me at the post-match banquet. Yes, there will be one. You can bet on it.

In the OVA, her personality is somewhat different; while still being determined and a bit arrogant (bluntly telling Miho that Anzio would still win even if she were Nishizumi), she's not at all rude, wants a fair fight, and finally admits defeat with dignity. In battle, she proved herself a capable tactician, though when her plan failed (due to the mistakes of her subordinates), she reacted rather impulsively and ended up blindly walking into a trap while attempting to destroy an enemy tank carrying a flag. Anchovy is also greatly irritated by her team's lack of focus and love of food, and she privately remarks that she might need to work on it, though she shares this sentiment to a degree (noting that this is their way of life in Sensha-Do).

Anchovy is known for her fiery temper (as evidenced by her angry and vocal reaction to defeat), arrogance, overconfidence, and demanding nature; she firmly believes that only victory matters in Sensha-Do, and therefore holds those who supposedly "run away" from battle in utter contempt. Despite this, however, she cares deeply for her subordinates and comrades; in fact, when Miho Nishizumi told her that her comrades were more important than victory, she retorted that if she cared so much, she should understand that a leader's duty, in her view, is to bring victory to her team. Furthermore, as her apology to Carpaccio demonstrates, she views defeat as her personal failure as a commander, rather than placing the blame for it on her team.

Anchovy's favorite flower is the daisy, and her favorite tank is the Italian heavy tank Carro Armato P26/40. It was a 'secret weapon' that Anzio had to save for the quarter-final against Ooarai, cutting down on snack time. Anchovy's birthday is September 23rd. On this day in 1943, the Italian Social Republic was founded under the leadership of fascist dictator Benito Mussolini. The anchovy gets its name from a small forage fish of the same name, found in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans, as well as the Black and Mediterranean Seas. In the Anzio OVA, it was revealed that Anchovy was present at the final battle, but due to the Anzio students arriving too early, they threw an impromptu party, causing them to sleep through the entire match. Anchovy was the one who revived the sensha-do program at Anzio Girls' High School.[ 1 ] Anchovy typically names his businesses after mathematical stationery. The voice actress of the anime Anchovy, Maya Yoshioka, also voices the following characters: Taeko Kondo, radio operator of the Type 89B (Duck Team) helicopter from Ooarai Island. The fourth daughter of the Kawashima family, whose name is unknown. Panther commander, name unknown.

Anchovy has one of the most varied doctrines in Sensha-dō, though they all revolve around maximizing the use of its arsenal. By splitting its forces between faster but less powerful CV.33 tankettes and slower but more powerful Semovente self-propelled artillery units, Anchovy can harass stronger opponents and dismember their forces before sending in the self-propelled artillery units for the finishing blow. To deceive opponents, Anchovy also uses cardboard decoys of its forces, placing them in different locations to cause panic and make mistakes.

Due to the CV.33's low firepower, they are best suited for engaging lighter tanks or as tactical counters against heavier enemy tanks. The CV.33s used by Anzio have been modified to be faster than most of their opponents, allowing Anchovies to use them as scouts or fast strike forces to engage enemies en masse. In actual tank combat, Anchovies rely on their Semoventes, which do most of the fighting. Recently, Anchovies has acquired its trump card: the Carro Armato P40 medium tank, a versatile vehicle that also serves as its command post.

Anchovy has long, pastel green hair styled into two pigtails with black ribbons, reddish-brown eyes, and a slender build.

At school, Anchovy typically wears a uniform with a black cape secured by a chain around her neck. She also wears a round gold badge as a symbol of her authority as the commander of the sensha-dō. She also carries a whip, which she uses to boost the morale of her teammates.

During sensha-dō training, Anchovy wears Anzio's dark green uniform, but instead of a skirt, she wears trousers. She wears the trousers over boots.
