He finally seems to choose to abandon his Oni mask after the end of the film, throwing it over his shoulder into the road along with his metal rod, which he is seen using as a weapon or head scratcher in the ocean water after the film's ending. He appears in the second film's bonus clip without his Oni mask at all, seemingly having abandoned the Macaque impersonation entirely after the defeat of Ao Guang and Ao Bing, instead choosing to have his face visible even in public. He is now seen wearing a cream-white fedora with a salmon-pink stripe instead of his signature Oni mask in the bonus clip. He is seen with it over his face while reclining in a chair during the bonus clip, listening to a narrator retell the story of Erlang Shen and Sun Wukong until the narrator recognizes him and flees, revealing himself to be a monkey demon. Li Yunxiang asks if this is true and if he has been defeated. Before removing his fedora and leaving with Li Yunxiang, he explains the true story. We don't get to hear the real story from him as they depart. But he denies having been defeated by Erlang Shen. Or at least that it wasn't as dramatic as the demonic narrator made it out to be, saying "that's just a story" and then explaining the true story as they leave. Unfortunately, we didn't get to hear the true story from him. But he makes it clear that the version being told didn't match what actually happened.

At other times, at his home, at the water treatment plant/factory where he resides, he is often seen wearing a short blue silk robe with shorts printed with blue and pink flowers, and over it a long padded yellow robe with flip-flops (or sandals, depending on the region).

In public, he usually wears his iconic and recognizable pink blazer with a bale collar and pink trousers. He pairs it with black leather Oxford shoes with sharp studs on the heels. He also wears leather gloves with skulls and crossbones, studded at the knuckles, and the fingers are cut off due to the size of his hands. He wears spiral gold bracelets that reach his elbows, secured with two thick gold bangles adorned with green gems. Around his neck, several gold chains and pendants hang down over his chest; the two pendants are skulls in profile, one large and one small, possibly symbolizing his immortality.

Sun Wukong in the film has a very eccentric personality. He speaks animatedly, laughs frequently, and makes monkey-like sounds. He acts as Li Yunxiang's mentor, being helpful, relaxed, and meticulous. He is very unpredictable, but in certain scenes, he can be serious in an instant, though he generally opts for smiles and laughter. He is known to occasionally work for Ao Guang on assassination or similar jobs, as evidenced by contextual clues from the Dragon King throughout the film, who states that if the price is right, he will comply. Unless, of course, he has a personal interest in the target, as he did with Li Yunxiang. He is the embodiment of the unexpected, often surprising his young protégé, Yunxiang. He generally doesn't take things seriously, and when he does, it's noticeable. At the end of the film and in the second extra clip, he remains in Li Yunxiang's life, almost like an adoptive uncle after the death of Li Yunxiang's father. Although he could have continued his life as usual, he ultimately chooses to remain in Li Yunxiang's life as if they were his adoptive family. He even casually displays affection by placing an arm around Li Yunxiang's shoulder in the bonus clip of the second New Gods movie. Wukong seems to suffer from something called "immortal depression," fueled by disillusionment with humanity and the way the world was shaping up. He expresses his weariness and, rather than running away from anyone by hiding, simply no longer craves attention or recognition. He chooses to conceal himself as someone he feels insignificant, like the Six-Eared Macaque, and disappear from the face of the earth. But his new friendships and mentorship with Li Yunxiang seem to bring something new into his life and possibly give him hope once more. With the abandonment of his mask, he decides to express his identity as the Monkey King again.

Sun Wukong, also known as The Monkey King or The Masked Man in the credits, has a single appearance in the film (and as an extra in the second film).

Sun Wukong in New Gods: Nezha Reborn has brown fur all over his body, but the soles of his feet and palms of his hands are hairless, as is the rest of his face, apart from his mane, eyebrows, and the fuzz on his cheeks. His "mane" is very similar to a lion's, white with tufts that look like dandelions, but with a rough, almost textured appearance.

Without his mask, he is seen with abundant cheek hair, long, bushy eyebrows that blend into his hair at the ends, and a thick beard. He appears to lack a tail in the film(s) (including the bonus clip at the end of the second New Gods film), or at least it is not evident with an illusion spell. This is similar to how his ears change from six to two when he is revealed to be Sun Wukong.

Wukong has canine teeth in both his upper and lower jaws, a common feature in most great apes. He also has brownish-gray eyes, long, pointed ears, and a nose and snout very similar to those of a monkey. He has dark, smoky-gray coloring around his eyes.

During his performance as the "six-eared monkey" and his impersonation, Wukong appears to have three pairs of ears to anyone who sees him without his mask, as in the scene with Ao Guang, a major villain in the film New Gods: Nezha Reborn, who believes he knows Wukong's true identity as the Six-Eared Monkey. However, he was ultimately mistaken. This is a nod to the original Journey to the West. Sun Wukong imitates the monkey in a manner similar to how the Six-Eared Monkey appeared as him in the original book and story of Journey to the West. Only after defeating Ao Bing does he reveal his true identity as the Monkey King Sun Wukong to Li Yunxiang, the film's protagonist.
