Taehyung woke up to a familiar itch on his cheeks. His stubble was making itself felt again. He stretched and went to the bathroom.

The door was ajar. Jungkook stood inside, his back to him. His shoulders shook slightly. Taehyung paused in the doorway. In the mirror, he saw his husband's face, wet with tears, and what he was holding in his hands. They were a large pair of office scissors.

And then Taehyung saw his hair. Or what was left of it. Jungkook's bangs were uneven, bumpy strands of varying lengths. Some stuck out to the side, others stuck out like short stubble on his forehead. It was clearly an attempt at cutting his own hair, and a disastrous failure.

Dark strands of hair lay on the floor. Jungkook noticed Taehyung's reflection in the mirror and turned around abruptly. His eyes were red and full of terror. He looked simultaneously guilty and utterly miserable. The scissors fell limply in his hand.

Taehyung didn't ask why or wherefore. He only saw the result: ruined bangs and a tearful husband who apparently decided he could handle it. Silently, Taehyung stepped forward. He carefully took the scissors from Jungkook's trembling fingers and set them aside. Then he opened the cabinet slightly and took out his clippers and comb.

He turned Jungkook to face the mirror and gently placed his hands on his shoulders. Jungkook closed his eyes, his breathing still ragged. Taehyung turned on the clippers. Their steady hum filled the silence of the bathroom. He carefully began to straighten his bangs, removing excess, trying to save what could still be saved. Strand by strand, taking his time. He concentrated on his work, and Jungkook gradually stopped shaking.

When Taehyung finished, the bangs were short, but even and neat. He turned off the clippers and brushed the trimmed hairs off his husband's forehead. Jungkook carefully opened his eyes, looked at his reflection, then at Taehyung.

Taehyung sighed, hugged him by the shoulders and pulled him close. "Next time, just wake me up, okay?" he said quietly. "Even if it's three in the morning."
