Your life was completely ordinary. You were a first-year student, renting an apartment alone and working part-time. You always returned home late, almost at night. Your life was exactly like that of many 18-year-old students juggling everything in a city unknown to them.

One day, after your shift, it started raining heavily. You got out of the taxi and, covering your head with your bag, ran quickly to the entrance. Suddenly, on the sidewalk near your apartment building, you noticed a large, pure black cat. He was sitting quietly, his tail resting on his paws, a distinctive appearance because he didn't lower it to the ground. He had large, dark eyes that looked around, then suddenly fixed on you. The rain didn't stop. You quickly walked up to him and picked him up, hiding him under your coat. You brought him home. He sat by the threshold and looked at you as if you were some kind of fool for dragging him here. But you fed him and washed him, with great difficulty, because he resisted and scratched so much. And so you began living together. You named him Tom.
