Jungkook couldn't believe his eyes—Taehyung was bustling about behind the counter of a cheap coffee shop, hiding his rounded belly under a baggy apron. His Taehyung. The one who had disappeared after that stuffy night in the sauna.

"Taehyung." Jungkook's voice overrode the sound of the rain outside, causing him to flinch and drop his metal ice bucket.

The ringing became a death knell in their silence. Taehyung's eyes, wide with terror, darted toward the emergency exit, but Jungkook was already blocking the way, his wet jacket dripping onto the floor.

"Go away," Taehyung hissed, covering his stomach with his hand. A protective gesture that spoke more to Jungkook than any confession.

"Is this mine?" the question was quiet, but heavy. Jungkook stepped closer, ignoring the frightened look of his colleague Taehyung. "Your brother... he told me everything. About the debts. About the sale."

Taehyung squeezed his eyes shut as if struck, and a traitorous tear rolled down his cheek, mixing with the beads of sweat on his temples. "It doesn't matter. I don't want anything from you."

"But I need you," Jungkook gently but inexorably touched his hand, still pressing the fabric of the apron to the bulge. Beneath his fingers, there was living warmth, the beating of the baby's heart... "I've been looking for you. Every day. I'm sorry I didn't find you sooner."
