The heat in the favelas was thick and sticky. Taehyung, lost in the maze of red bricks and tangled wires, pressed himself against a rough wall. The barrels of automatic weapons stared at him—five tattooed men blocked the exit from the dead end.

The crowd suddenly parted. A man in a black T-shirt, revealing tattooed arms, emerged from the shadows. It was Jungkook, the leader of the Jakars, a man whose name was whispered here. He slowly approached Taehyung, while his men froze, awaiting the order to execute. Jungkook unceremoniously grabbed Taehyung by the chin, forcing him to look straight into his eyes.

A cold, gray roof flashed through Jungkook's mind. Ten years ago, he'd stood at the very edge, about to take a step down, when a little boy tugged at his jacket and asked if he'd like to finish a pack of sour gummies with him. Those naive words about "tomorrow will taste different" had pulled him back from the precipice.

Jungkook had been searching for that look for years. He'd built an empire on blood and fear just to find the person who gave him meaning. And now Taehyung stood before him, trembling with fear.
