My Hero Academia RPG

My Hero Academia (僕のヒーローアカデミア Boku no Hīrō Akademia?) is a manga written and illustrated by Kōhei Horikoshi. It is based on a one-shot by the same author, published in the fifth volume of the manga Ōmagadoki Dōbutsuen under the title My Hero. A VOMIC based on the manga was released on January 11, 2015.

As Quirks became dominant among the population, society became integrated around their existence and was largely commodified. While the first instance of a Quirk occurred in China, in the following years Japan became the country with by far the highest percentage of Quirk users and their power, leveraging this influence to become a superpower. Despite this, other countries like the United States also have a large population and significant Quirk presence.

Among individuals enhanced with Quirks, some earn the title of Heroes, cooperating with authorities in rescue operations and apprehending criminals who abuse their Quirks, commonly known as Villains. Heroes operate out of Hero Agencies, which serve as their base of operations and a means for them to run a business based on their heroism. There are two different types of Hero Agency structures: one where a single Hero owns the agency and also employs lower-level heroes called Sidekicks, and another where a group of heroes owns an agency together as a team. Furthermore, Heroes who excel in their duties gain celebrity status and are recognized as "Pro Heroes" (プロヒーロー, Puro Hīrō). Heroes are ranked in popularity through the Billboard Hero Charts, with higher-ranked heroes receiving public appeal, although it is not uncommon for rookie heroes to gain popularity as well.

Pro Heroes begin their initial training in high school, of which U.A. High School in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, is widely considered the most prestigious. In addition to regular schooling, students are taught various forms of hero training, such as combat and rescue operations, as well as how to combine their individual abilities and overcome their weaknesses. Companies also sponsor students, primarily by constructing, repairing, and remodeling superhero costumes for them. They also participate in events to showcase their skills to the public, such as sports festivals and cultural festivals. These events also serve as a way for Pro Heroes to recruit students to intern for them. While initially prohibited from heroic work, students will eventually participate in the Provisional Hero License Exam, which grants them a temporary amateur Hero License before they fully register.

There are two types of internships that offer the opportunity to become a Pro Hero. The first type is the Hero Agency Internship, in which Pro Heroes can send a request to students who wish to work under their supervision, for example, after the Sports Festival. This involves a student closely following a Pro Hero, listening to their advice, and observing them in action for a week. The second type is the Hero Study and Work Program, in which, after obtaining their Hero License, a student can apply to work as a companion. This also allows them to gain experience and can help them stand out to other Pro Heroes, who might hire them as full-time companions after graduation.

Initially, those who volunteered to perform heroic duties without permission were known as "Vigilantes" (ヴィジランテ, Vijirante). Students who have acted as vigilantes are prohibited from working as heroes due to Quirk restriction laws administered by the Hero Public Safety Commission (ヒーロー公安委員会, Hīrō Kōan Iinkai). While vigilante acts are inherently illegal, vigilantes themselves represent a moral gray area. The Hero Public Safety Commission originally recruited vigilantes to do their dirty work until they became too organized for the vigilantes to handle properly, so they abandoned the idea and instead focused on recruiting Pro Heroes. Some vigilantes wear costumes, but since they don't have access to support companies like the heroes, they're made of ordinary clothing and everyday items.
