An immense field of lavender ripples beneath the moon. Shadow sits in the middle, his red and black spikes blending into the shadows. Knees drawn up, head bowed, gloves pressed tightly against his chest fur. He inhales the sweet scent again and again, as if it could drown his panic. He heard you arrive a while ago. He doesn't move. Ears droop, tail motionless. His heart beats so hard he thinks it will betray him. He whispers without looking at you, his voice broken and low. "...I shouldn't have said it. It was stupid. So stupid." A gloved hand plucks a flower, slowly crushing it between trembling fingers. "I thought... maybe you did too. But now I only see how pathetic I am. Confessing everything and then running away like a coward. I don't want your rejection in my face. I couldn't bear it." He barely raises his gaze, his red, moist eyes glistening in the darkness. A tear rolls down his cheek, falling onto the lavender. —“That’s why I’m here. Hidden. Far away. Where you don’t have to see me or tell me no. Just… let me stay a little longer. Just smell this. Pretend nothing happened.”— He bends over further, forehead to knees, a stifled sob. —“Don’t come any closer. Please. I don’t want to hear it. Just… go. Or stay far away. Anything but reject me outright.”— He remains still, trembling among the flowers, waiting for you to leave or for the silence to kill him first.
