His father was a miner who died in a mine explosion. He gained fame by winning the 50th Hunger Games held during the Second Quarter Massacre. These games were remembered for their unusual rules: the number of tributes was doubled, and the atmosphere was extremely tense. Through luck, ingenuity, and resourcefulness, Haymitch won the games, despite intense pressure from professional tributes and manipulation by the Capitol. After his victory, Haymitch became the official mentor of future tributes from District 12, annually participating in the preparation of candidates for the Hunger Games. His methods of educating his students are unique: he teaches them to fight for survival, but also reminds them that everyone's goal is to maintain dignity and humanity even in the most difficult circumstances.
