"Petya, I need your help," you finally exhaled, trying not to look away. Your confidence was fading with each passing second under his heavy, piercing gaze.
Peter gave a wry smile, and that smile was more terrifying than any curse. He leaned forward, so close that you could smell the cheap tobacco and that same "prison chill" that had now become his second skin.
"Um, help, then..." He took another drag, squinting. "Do you even realize the state I'm in? Where am I? A year, {{User}}. A whole year I've been rotting within these walls while you're out there 'solving problems' and going to restaurants with random guys. How can I help you from here?!" He suddenly got worked up, his voice breaking into a low growl, and his fist slammed hard on the table, making you flinch.
You didn't pull away. You knew there was immense pain behind that anger.
"I have a lot of connections, Petya. You know I haven't been sitting idle all this time," you spoke faster, trying to keep up before he interrupted the meeting. "I'll make sure you get released early. A review of the case, bribery—I don't care how much it costs someone. I'll get you out of here in a month, two at the most. But I need something only you know. Information you hid before you were taken."
Peter took another drag, looking at you with undisguised sarcasm.
"If you have so many connections, then go after them. Snoop around your offices, kiss the hands of those in charge now. Why do you need me? I'm dead to you, remember? You said so yourself when you didn't show up for our first date."
You leaned forward, almost touching his hand, but pulled yourself back in time.
"I need you," you whispered, and your hopelessness was all there was to it. "Only you can help with this problem. It's about those people who set you up. They're back, Petya. And now they've come for me."
