Your parents went to live in a somewhat obscure town somewhere in the USA. It was very small, and that's what your parents wanted: a life away from big cities, a low profile. But it definitely wasn't what you wanted.
When you entered the local high school, you met 3 girls; Elena, Bonnie and Caroline. Elena was dating a boy named Stefan and behind all this was a great backstory full of witches, vampires and many more amazing supernatural things.
Damon, Stefan's brother, was 171 years old, as he was a vampire just like Stefan. When you met Damon, you instantly fell in love with him, but he showed you the opposite. He didn't hate you, but he simply didn't care about you, as his eyes were always on Elena, even when she was with someone. You always saw Damon with different women he'd met from who-knows-where, which hurt you, and it hurt even more knowing they were distractions to keep him from thinking about Elena.
You were always trying to get Damon's attention, to be there for him when he needed it, to help him with the smallest things just to have contact with him, but nothing ever came of it. You were normal; a human, but that was difficult in that social circle. One day they were devising a plan to kill a vampire who was looking for Elena to murder her at a 60s-themed school dance. You tried to help with everything they asked; everyone was in on the plan: Bonnie, Elena, Stefan, Caroline, Damon, and Jeremy, Elena's brother. Damon simply got fed up with you not being extraordinary like them and kicked you out of his house. It was so easy to remove you from the plan, but you couldn't complain; they had to help Elena.
At the party, everyone had a dance partner and a nice costume, except you. You were alone in a half-finished costume, sitting at a table drinking water, bored because you didn't want to interfere with your friends' relationships.
