Chuuya Nakahara is a member of the Port Mafia Executive Committee and Osamu Dazai's former partner. He possesses the ability "Vague Sadness."

Chuya is a young man of short stature, but despite his apparent thinness, his build is quite muscular. He has large, gray-blue eyes, shoulder-length, bright red hair parted on the right side, and a wide smile. His side-swept bangs visually cover most of the right side of his face. He wears his hair tied back in a ponytail and combed to the left.

Chuya is temperamental, arrogant, and at times rude—he enjoys fighting and prides himself on his reputation as the Port Mafia's strongest martial artist. In combat, he doesn't hesitate to ridicule his opponents, is merciless toward the organization's enemies, and is willing to eliminate them by any means necessary. At the same time, he is quite prudent when not provoked, understands the importance of compromise, and knows when to stop, avoiding unnecessary cruelty.

Chui's top priority is the prosperity of the Port Mafia: he's willing to do anything for it, but he also respects his subordinates and values ​​loyalty, never forgiving betrayal. He previously demonstrated similar loyalty while protecting the Sheep.

In the past, Chuuya searched for his place in the world. His connection with Arahabaki forced him to question his own humanity: the influence of divine power created a feeling of numbness—as if he felt no fear or anxiety in battle, confident in victory. This was exacerbated by his ignorance of the truth about his liberation from government control.

To control himself, Chuuya uses kicks more often in combat and fights with gloves. He only removes them when using "Corruption"—for him, this is a sign of the loss of pleasure in combat, a moment when he needs inner support and a reminder of the precious moments in life. Gradually, he developed his own views and began to take life more seriously.

The betrayal of his former comrades and the revelation of the truth about his origin accelerated Chui's career advancement in the mafia.

He has a special relationship with Dazai: Chuuya hates Osamu for his treachery and constant mockery of his pride—any insult from Dazai instantly infuriates him. Nevertheless, he acknowledges Dazai's tactical talent and the effectiveness of their "Double Black" duet.

Vague Sadness is Chuuya Nakahara's ability, which relies on manipulating gravity and creating black holes. It has two activation modes:

Corruption is the true form of Chuuya's ability, which he activates through words.

"Well, you who bestowed upon me dark disfavor, you shouldn't have woken me up again..."

It manifests through the blood flowing from Chuuya's body, causing strange markings to appear on his body. The danger of this ability is that once activated, he is unable to control it. Therefore, unless Dazai stops it in time, Chuuya will drain his energy and strength until he dies.

The corruption stems from Chuya's origins as the essence of Arahabaki, a god of immense destructive power.

The name Chuya means "inside" and "to be". The surname Nakahara means "inside" and "plains".

Osamu Dazai is Chuuya's former partner, back when he was still a member of the Port Mafia. The pair became known as "Double Black." They have a long relationship with a rich backstory, including their childhood. They know each other so well that they easily understand how the other thinks, acts, and fights. Chuuya and Dazai never miss an opportunity to point out how much they "hate" each other because of this. Dazai easily upsets Chuuya with his hot-tempered and sometimes aggressive nature. Despite this, Chuuya trusts Dazai enough to activate "Corruption," which can only be reversed by Dazai's ability.

Ryunosuke Akutagawa Chuuya and Akutagawa rarely interacted. Nakahara only mentioned him to others. He was also the one who inquired with Mori about Akutagawa's punishment for disobeying orders during the war with the Guild. Nevertheless, Chuuya apparently recognized Akutagawa as a powerful esper and a valuable member of the Port Mafia. He later worked with him as part of a team during Operation Cannibalism.

Initially, Koyo was Chuuya's mentor, and they shared a friendly bond. He often calls her "big sister." This initially irritated Koyo, as she didn't think she was old enough for the nickname. However, when they first met, Chuuya actually called her "old lady," to which Koyo, surprisingly, reacted quite calmly. Chuuya and Koyo are quite capable of working together. They were the ones who considered the optimal solution for saving the Boss after he was infected with the cannibalism virus. The girl immediately realized that Nakahara was ready to kill Fukuzawa. Initially, she disagreed, but they soon came to an agreement, as the Mafia eventually engaged in combat with the Agency detectives.

Ogai Mori The Port Mafia boss, Mori, asks Chuuya to work with Dazai to investigate the supposed reappearance of his recently deceased predecessor and the mysterious Arahabaki. However, this choice was met with hostility from both sides. It was he who dubbed the duo "Double Black," also known as "Soukoku." Soon, Chuuya challenges Mori's perception of what it means to be a leader. The man's response forces Chuuya to realize his shortcomings as the leader of the Sheep organization. Ultimately, Nakahara joins the Mafia and pledges his allegiance to Mori and the Mafia, vowing to use his abilities to protect them.[5] Mori was the one who promoted Chuya to head of the Executive Committee. Chuya is dedicated to the cause and does everything in his power. During the events surrounding the infection of the leaders of two organizations, Chuya unhesitatingly challenges the Agency to assassinate their president. He sees this as the only option available to save Mori. Overall, Chuuya and Mori have a mutual and professional relationship. He accepts missions from the Boss, completely trusting his schemes and plans. For example, he served as Mori's personal envoy during the Guild War and helped the Agency escape from the Tracker organization.

Paul Verlaine Chuuya has a very complicated relationship with this man. Verlaine first met Nakahara when he was sixteen years old. Saying that he was his older brother, Verlaine asked him to leave the Mafia with him. Trying to convince the young man to follow him, the professional killer begins to kill everyone who is in any way dear to him. This forces Chuuya, Dazai and Adam to confront Paul. Verlaine's final target is the Boss of the Port Mafia, Ougai Mori. All this culminates in a battle against the entire Port Mafia, which suffered heavy losses, but still captured the esper. He subsequently becomes one of the members of the Executive Committee along with Chuuya and Kouyou Ozaki and is engaged in training hired killers such as Gin Akutagawa and Kyoka Izumi.

Nakahara's most striking accessory is his black hat with a red ribbon wrapped around it and a thin silver chain hanging over the brim. He wears a white, classic white shirt with a high, standing collar. He never fastens the collar of the shirt all the way. Over it, he wears a light gray vest with a V-shaped neckline on black buttons and a shoulder belt on his chest. He also wears a black bolo tie with a diamond-shaped buckle. Over the vest, he wears an open, cropped black jacket with sleeves rolled up to the elbows. He wears black loose-fitting trousers. On top of that, he wears a belt of the same color with a gold buckle, which hangs down on the left side. On his feet, he wears black low-heeled shoes with a pointed toe. Around his neck he wears a classic black choker necklace with a square silver buckle. He is almost always seen wearing black gloves. Chuuya also wears a long black coat with a light red lining and lapels, which he wears over his shoulders like a cape.

Chuuya's hair had grown longer, and he began tying it in a ponytail. Nakahara now wore the hat Ogai Mori had given him. He wore a black choker necklace, but without a buckle, around his neck. He wore a white T-shirt with a loose, scoop-shaped neckline, creating a slightly draped effect. Over the T-shirt, he wore a burgundy, knee-length, buttonless cardigan with an asymmetrical back (the fabric was cut longer at the sides than in the middle) and a zigzag cut at the front. Over all this, he wore a deep brown jacket with a hood and darker panels at the front and back. He completed his outfit with tapered black trousers, dark brown shoes, and black gloves. His belt had a rectangular gold buckle.

At the time, his hair was shorter, mostly parted to the right. He wore a red T-shirt, over which he wore a light gray hoodie and a dark green leather biker jacket with a diagonal zipper. The jacket had three pockets—two on the sides and one on the chest. There were also darker-colored panels around the chest. At the back, this panel was triangular with a gray button in the middle. Chuuya always rolled up the right sleeve of his jacket almost to the elbow. On his right hand, he wore a bracelet with the blue "Sheep" emblem.
