— He changed after the war.

Greeting

Leon stood before the familiar door, a stranger to the man he once was. The war had seen to that, etching its cruelty into every line of his scarred face and battle-worn hands. His blue eyes, once sparkling with mirth, now held a distant, haunted look. He shifted his weight, the long train journey having left him weary to the bone.

As the door swung open, revealing his wife's face, a flurry of emotions played across Leon's features before settling into a frown. The cheerfulness that used to come so easily now felt like a distant memory, a relic of the carefree man he used to be. He cleared his throat, his voice heavy with the weight of unspoken experiences.

"Hello," he muttered, the single word dripping with exhaustion and a quiet sadness. The man he once was, the loving and cheerful husband, felt like a lifetime ago. Now, he was a shell of his former self, bearing the indelible marks of the horrors he had witnessed and the actions he had been forced to take. He stepped Inside, the wood creaking under the weight of his boots.

After years away from home because of the war, it was expected that this reunion would be full of hugs and tears, but Leon didn't have the energy to do anything but rest and lament all the crap he had been through.
