Berk is a rather round island, similar in shape to an oval, and it looks quite small on maps. Unlike many other islands, it has very few sea stacks. However, it contains many interesting geological landforms such as rocky arches and cliffs, beaches, waterfalls, streams, and several large forests. There is also a massive cavern under the village which now serves as a space for dragon stables.
According to the episode "The Longest Day", Berk receives two weeks of the midnight sun every year, putting it roughly 70 km south of the Arctic Circle at a latitude of around 65 degrees, 54 minutes North.
Berk is a small island that Hiccup states is twelve days north of "Hopelessness" and a few degrees south of "Freezing to Death",
Notable places
The Hooligan village: is where the Vikings of Berk live. The village is filled with large houses with an architectural theme of dragons, and the homes are built on land with a slope. However, these homes had to be constantly reconstructed or repaired after being destroyed during dragon raids before the Vikings and dragons made peace
The barn: A large barn exists at the base of the cliffs, and in front of it are large pens for the yaks the Vikings domesticated.
Armory: The armory acts as a storage for weaponry. There is gunpowder or some other explosive substance inside
Berk Dragon Training Academy Once the arena where Dragon Fighting class was held, it also housed several dragon species the Vikings had captured for training the younger Vikings to fight. There was a Deadly Nadder (Stormfly), a Hideous Zippleback (Barf and Belch), a Gronckle (Meatlug), a Monstrous Nightmare (Hookfang), and a Terrible Terror (Sharpshot). Toothless was also imprisoned here for a short while. It was also used for housing the battle between the best of the Dragon Training class and a Monstrous Nightmare as shown in How to Train Your Dragon. Later, Stoick gave Hiccup the arena to use as the Berk Dragon Training Academy, and a sign depicting Toothless was put up over the entrance as shown in "How to Start a Dragon Academy". The dragon cages were kept intact, as the dragons were locked up here when they were causing trouble, and also Stoick's Thunderdrum, Thornado, was locked up here with a muzzle when he was still aggressive as shown in "How to Pick Your Dragon".
notable places 2
Blacksmith Shop: Gobber's Blacksmithing Forge is the main blacksmithing shop on the island and is built along a cliff opposite the Haddock house. It was where the Vikings got their weapons during the dragon raids. The forge is spacious with many weapons inside. Hiccup has a space secluded in the rear of the building for use as his own workshop. Lately, Gobber has become a dragon dentist, so he put up a sign above the forge with a tooth on it, though the forge is still used. By the second film, it became the greatly expanded Dragon Armory where Gobber continued to practice his dragon dentistry and has dragon saddles built here
Dragon Feeding Station: The Dragon Feeding Station is a building for dragons to feed themselves, thereby avoiding any conflicts between villager and dragon by providing an alternate food source to the Vikings' food stores.
Dragon Grooming Station: The Dragon Grooming Station is a hut for dragons to care of themselves, and in which their riders can groom them. They can bathe, exfoliate, and possibly dry off over hot coals.
notable places 3
The Docks: in Berk have large individual docks for loading and unloading large cargo into the ships. The docks are built from the large cliff of Raven Point. A wooden walkway is built above the docks to view the ships from. This is where Hiccup stood as he watched the ships sail away to the Dragons' Nest as shown in the first film, How to Train Your Dragon. Two large Viking statues with eternal flames in their mouths guard the waters entering the Berk Docks. One of these statues is destroyed by Drago's Bewilderbeast in the second film, and Hiccup had it rebuilt as a dragon.
Gothi's Hut A house built high up on top of a steep peak that houses Gothi, the village elder. She has it secured on tall scaffolding, that need many stairs to reach. Because her home is located very high up, Gothi likely has a good view of the entire village from her front door
The Great Hall: The Great Hall is the centerpiece of the island, serving as a communal hall for the Hooligans. They gather to meet, eat, and discuss political matters within its walls. A long set of stone steps lead ceremoniously to its entrance. It is arguably the most important and iconic structure on Berk. The Great Hall is considered the heart of Berk due to its importance in the Hooligan Tribe.
Haddock House: The Haddock house is where Hiccup and Stoick live, therefore it is also the chief's house. it is built on top of the high slope overlooking the entire village. The house is larger in comparison with other homes and is located right next to the Great Hall. It has steps leading up to the front door and two stone structures at the threshold of the steps
Hofferson House The Hoffersen House is where Astrid and her parents live, the house itself shows references to the Deadly Nadder by it having a Nadder figurehead and covered in spikes.
Library The library on Berk has a collection of sources of information and similar resources for the village to use
notable places 4
The prison: A rarely used place on the island of Berk, used to hold enemies captured by the Hairy Hooligans. It appears several times in the series.
Unlike the Outcast prison, the Hooligan's cells are above ground in the village. The prison stands on a cliff that flows into the sea, which, in addition to numerous security measures, prevents the prisoners from escaping - they are forced to either jump into the ocean or go to the central part of the village, where they would be immediately noticed and caught.
It is a small building with a rectangular shape and a sloping roof. It is made of wooden logs, tightly arranged together. Sharp wooden sticks protrude from the top of the roof, probably to prevent escapes through the hole in the roof. Above the entrance, along the entire structure, Viking shields are hung. There are two tall structures on either side of the prison - one of them is probably an watchtower armed with a catapult and the other is a well.
Inside, there are about six cells with sturdy doors made of iron bars. The equipment is quite poor, sufficient for the humane detention of prisoners. Unlike the Outcast prison, it looks neat and comfortable. You can see that the prisoners staying there are treated well and with respect, they have convenient conditions and everything they need.
Well The Well is a standard circular stone well which is dug a deep hole into an underground water source that helps supply the village with fresh and clean drinking water, which was dug around two years before the dragons moved in. It now connects to another source of water after Whispering Deaths drained the source but dug a new channel.
Caves of Jötunn These caves were in the bowels of Berk. They were also known as the Underworld. It was here that Captain Fiske had a mining operation where he hoped that the village of Berk would be swallowed up as shown in "Underworld".
Lars Lake The is an enormous body of deep fresh water surrounded by rocky cliffs but a sandy lake
notable places 5
Raven Point: As stated in the first film, Hiccup says he shot down a Night Fury that fell just past Raven Point. Raven Point is a mountain peak filled with forests and cliffs. At the base of the tallest peak, lay the docks. This is notable because of a large canyon-like structure between the tallest peak and another cliff.
The Cove: A large sunken area in the forest with rocks, tree roots, and a waterfall fed pond with fish. It was here Toothless crash-landed once Hiccup released him, and this was where they gained each other's trust and friendship. The walls are steep enough that Toothless cannot easily get out, though he can if sufficiently motivated, such as when he rescued Hiccup from Hookfang in How to Train Your Dragon. However, Vikings can easily enter and exit through narrow corridors. Hiccup occasionally leaves Toothless here when he doesn't want him to go anywhere,
Whispering Death Caves: These tunnels were formed when Toothless' Nemesis tracked him down to Berk and began tunneling around everywhere from the village to the forest. Later in an attempt to destroy Berk Alvin, Mildew and the outcasts placed Whispering Death eggs in the underground caverns so that once hatched they would destroy Berk, when the Whispering Deaths hatched and made the tunnels they travelled everywhere around the island which lead to the water from the well to be diverted. But after more digging from battling the Dragon Riders the Whispering and Screaming Death dug a new water channel filling up the well again. These tunnels are also used by the Outcasts to sneak and spy around Berk as well as the Twins to travel around for fun leading to areas around the village, farms, beach and Gobber's outhouse

He initially has little physical strength, as he has difficulty lifting a large standard battle axe handed to him by his father. He has bell-shaped auburn hair parting to his right with freckles on his cheeks and dull, green eyes. One of his more unique traits is a small scar on the right side of his chin, which he received as an infant the night Cloudjumper took his mother to the Bewilderbeast’s nest
Personality Despite his physical shortcomings, Hiccup does his best to succeed as a Viking. He is intelligent and is constantly creating inventions for various uses throughout the first film, including a bola launcher, a dragon's prosthetic tail and saddle, and a riding vest. However, he is much stronger than he appears.
At first, Hiccup is obsessed with proving himself to the rest of his tribe by killing a dragon and originally hated them. But after meeting Toothless and befriending him, he would advocate for humans & dragon
Gobber the Belch
Height: 175 cm (5'9") (VG) (at age 55) Hair Color: Dirty blonde (VG) Eye Color: Blue (VG) Dragon(s): Grump (Hotburple) His nemesis (Boneknapper; briefly) Furnace (Thunderpede) Bonesnarl (Thunderclaw) Weapon(s) of Choice: Any (VG) Race: Human Friends/ Allies: Stoick the Vast Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III Gothi Valka Spitelout Jorgenson Phlegma the Fierce Faction: Hooligan Status: Alive Occupation: Blacksmith Dragon dentist and doctor Location: New Berk Isle of Berk (formerly) Alignment: Good Personality Gobber is a rather grouchy Viking with a snarky sense of humor. He has a tendency of cracking jokes and likes to claim to have never been defeated in battle. Nevertheless, Gobber has a kind heart and has a soft spot for those he cares about, and he uses this as an advantage to strengthening the complicated father-and-son relationship between Stoick and Hiccup.
Gobber is also Stoick's closest friend and advises the chief whenever he can. He also acts like a parent-figure towards Hiccup, taking the boy under his wing and offering advice whether it’s appreciated or not. Physical Appearance Gobber is a large, muscular, and bald Viking with a long, braided blond mustache and a unibrow. He wears a tunic made of tan fur and cloth and a helmet with yak horns. Gobber also wears a prosthetic left arm and right leg after both of said limbs were devoured by Monstrous Nightmares during his youth. He also sports a 'prosthetic' tooth - a well-shaped stone. Abilities, Skills, and Talents Gobber has quite a few talents and abilities that make him and his advice useful to the people of Berk.
Intelligence: Gobber's practical knowledge is quite good, as he figured out the gender of a yak without even looking closely at it, and knew why the farm animals were behaving strangely in “Animal House”.Teaching: Gobber used to teach the teens of Berk how to fight dragons, and also taught Hiccup everything he knew about forging. He also taught them to defend themselves
Gobber the Belch
Healer: Gobber had experience as a healer such as when he removed Scauldron poison from Mildew's butt in "Dragon Flower". He was also able to treat things such as taking a trap off Magnus' foot, and created a potion that gave Agnar his hair back, though the potion also upset his stomach in "Dragon Eye of the Beholder, Part 2".
Strength: Gobber is shown to be very strong. After all, he used to forge heavy weapons and fight Dragons. He had shown that he can throw a kitchen knife at a tree to split in half in "Alvin and the Outcasts".
Forging: Gobber is the blacksmith of the Hairy Hooligan Tribe, providing the town with weapons in order to fight the dragons. He later uses his blacksmithing abilities to make dragon saddles and mend injured dragons.
Reading Gothi's Writing: Gobber, Hiccup, and Fishlegs are the only known Vikings who can read and understand Gothi's writings.
Prosthetic Hand: Gobber has been seen to remove and replace his prosthetic hand with tools, such as a hook, axe, mace, brush, among others. He has so many, he has a storage device in his forge to mount them all.
Peg Leg: In “No Bark, All Bite”, Gobber has a hidden blade stored inside his peg leg and uses it to cut the ropes. According to Gobber, Hiccup made it for him on his last birthday. Similar to Hiccup’s prosthetic leg, Gobber can take attacks which would be painful if his leg were real, such as when a Hobgobbler starts chewing on it in the third film.
Senses: Gobber has a strong sense of smell. For example, he knew exactly how long ago the Teens had been in one spot in "Portrait of Hiccup as a Buff Man" by smelling the sand where their footprints were found.

Faction: Hooligan House Ingerman Status: Alive Occupation: Dragon Rider (formerly) Log Master and Boulder Class specialist for the Berk Dragon Training Academy (formerly) Location: New Berk Isle of Berk (formerly) Dragon's Edge (formerly) Alignment: Good Physical Appearance Generally, unlike his literary counterpart, Fishlegs in the franchise has a very large and husky appearance and is the biggest out of all the Dragon Riders.
In How to Train Your Dragon, Fishlegs wears a brown fur tunic, with a tiny Viking helmet with a pair of tiny horns on it. Fishlegs wears this same outfit in the three specials: Legend of the Boneknap
Fishlegs Ingerman
Fishlegs is probably the smartest, but also one of the most cowardly and quietest members of the Berk Dragon Training Academy. Despite his flaws, he is still a valued member of the gang. He may be the most cowardly of the group, but will face his fears when he is needed the most, especially out of love for his dragon, Meatlug. Fishlegs is also a vivid dreamer, Abilities, Skills, and Talents Intelligence and Building: Fishlegs has proven several times, especially in the first film and in the series whenever a new species of a dragon appeared, that he has a great knowledge of dragons. Unlike Hiccup, who learns from experience, Fishlegs prefers to learn from books. He thought of hand signals as seen in "Twinsanity", and knew Changewings were looking at the boat because Snotlout had the fourth egg as seen in "Gem of a Different Color". He came up with a system of using different colors on dragons for different islands to study their territory as seen in "Appetite for Destruction", figured out why the Flightmare comes every ten years as seen in "Fright of Passage", and taught Meatlug to improve her combat ability that were all shown to be a great success. He even built his own Viking ship for the Regatta event, although Meatlug got seasick and regurgitated lava on the deck of the ship, causing it to sink in the process in Dawn of the Dragon Racers. He also has much more of an interest in flora and fauna than the other Riders. Strength: It was revealed that when Fishlegs gets angry, he will go berserk, successfully defeating enemies and intimidating people, such as in "Gem of a Different Color" and "Big Man on Berk". This is possibly based on the books, where Fishlegs was half Berserker, half Murderous. He was also able to tackle-hug Meatlug in Gift of the Night Fury. As Bonecrusher, in "Big Man on Berk", he shows off his true strength and is able to lift up a cart. Senses: In "Night of the Hunters, Part 1", Fishlegs was able to identify concentrated dragon root

Snotlout Jorgenson
Physical Appearance Snotlout looked somewhat muscular like his book series counterpart.
In How to Train Your Dragon and DreamWorks Dragons: The Series, he's always worn his helmet with spiral sheep horns, his tunic tucked in his pants with open-stitching at the chest and a black vest over it, dark gray bracers on his arms, and matching fur boots. Personality Snotlout can be arrogant, to say the least, and prone to grandiose delusions of perfection, popularity, and attractiveness. Consequentially, his determination to achieve these things causes him to have a huge problem with authority or the ability to admit responsibility for his mistakes or misdeeds, but he always has some justification or some alternate way of seeing things. He often considers himself the smartest and strongest of the Riders and longs for approval, despite the others often behaving as though they find him annoying and immature with a colossal ego. However, his bragging is not without basis, as he is quite a good fighter and smarter than others think. His personality occasionally causes him to often be inconsiderate and exploitative towards others and he will often put the others down to make himself look better. In interviews but deep down Snotlout knows he is not the best but still wants to be thought of as such, implying his vainglorious posing is more about overcompensation. He likes to think he can handle anything, but when he can't, he is not above asking for help. He is confrontational, brutally frank, and stubborn. Abilities, Skills, and Talents Strength and Fighting Skills: Snotlout has proven to be the strongest of the Riders. He can lift heavy objects, like a sheep over his shoulder, and even manage to run with it as seen in "Thawfest". He was also able to pin Hookfang's horns to the ground and clamp a Monstrous Nightmare's mouth shut Endurance and Stamina: Snotlout's stamina and endurance have proven to be very high likr how he performed in the Thawfest Games. He still came out first

Tuffnut Thorston
Physical Appearance In How to Train Your Dragon, Tuffnut wears a dark brown, long, fur animal vest with a very light pale green tunic that goes past his hip. Around his waist, there's a brown sash. He also wears light grey-blue pants and dark brown furry boots. On his arms, he wears a long brown arm cloth armband that starts at his elbows and ends at his wrists. His helmet is studded and has four horns: the top two are bull-like, and the bottom two resemble ox horns. His long blond hair is unevenly divided in the middle and appears to in dreadlocks. He's relatively slim for a Viking and has tan skin with dark-blue eyes. His necklace's pendant is a large dragon claw or tooth. In DreamWorks Dragons: The Series, he wears the same outfit but any fur has been replaced with suede. Personality Although never said throughout the show, Tuffnut seems to be the dominant twin. Together, he and his sister love to get into trouble, even if it means getting scolded by the chief of the village. Tuffnut likes the idea of Ruffnut being in danger, as he states when Ruffnut was on fire one time, he just watched for a while before he decided to help put her out. Tuffnut enjoys the chance to argue and wrestle with his sister, although it usually ends with Ruffnut overpowering him, either verbally or physically. He shares many similar traits with his sister. The only thing that seems to be apparent in difference is he enjoys gross things as opposed to his sisterDespite having a close sibling relationship, Tuffnut is understandably frustrated when he has to share everything with his twin sister, but he's willing to make amends with Ruffnut to save their dragon. Although sharing a rivalry with his sister, on occasion, he will help her if she is in trouble. He often thinks highly of his own skills, claiming that he is the world's deadliest weapon

Ruffnut Thorston
Physical Appearance In both the television show and the first movie, Ruffnut wears a light brown, animal skin-like mini vest and a dark blue tunic that reaches just past her hips and ends in tatters. She wears a grayish-brown mini-skirt that also ends in tatters. Around her waist, she wears a metal-leather belt with a crest in the center. Ruffnut wears dark brown leggings and dark blue furry boots. On her arms, she wears long dark-gray cloth bracers (somewhat similar to what Astrid wears) that starts at her elbows and stops at the wrist. A bit of the cloth is laced between her first and second fingers. Ruffnut's helmet is studded with four horns, similar to her brother's, albeit the horns being longer and more slender: the top two are thinner bull-like horns while the two bottom horns are longer and curved. Her hair is evenly divided in slightly to the side and short bangs across the left side of her face. She has two small braids above her ears and three long braids that reach to her waist. Around her neck, Ruffnut wears a necklace with the pendant of a dragon tooth or claw. She's slim for a Viking and has tan skin, just like her brother, along with a pair of pale-blue eyes. Personality Ruffnut is tomboyish in nature, mostly because she is a Viking, but she does tend to find it offensive when her twin negatively comments about her physique.
Ruffnut can often be seen as smug, snarky, anarchic, irresponsible, and sometimes downright vicious but she also has a strong, compassionate, and selfless side as she was willing to cut her braids off so that they could serve as a substitute for a rope to save Scauldy. She also stubbornly stood her ground when the gang tried to persuade her in leaving when the Changewings were approaching, refusing to let Scauldy die. In the same episode, it's revealed that when the twins were little, while Tuffnut was afraid of the dark, Ruffnut only afraid of her brother. While Tuffnut was talking with Barf about Ruffnut in the episode,
Ruffnut Thorston
In the DreamWorks Dragons: The Series, despite having tamed Barf (and technically Belch), she seemed to have a slight fear of wild dragons that could potentially kill her and would often panic in situations in which she encounters a wild dragon. It's also shown that she might be afraid of dying, even to the point of naming the Scauldron "Please-Don't-Kill-Me". She has a slight motherly side and is quick to comfort Scauldy like how often a mother treats her kids, as shown in "Free Scauldy".
Ruffnut loves punching and wrestling with Tuffnut. In "Twinsanity", despite their quarreling, on occasion, she is shown to pull them both out of danger. Ruffnut dislikes having to share everything with her brother and had a brief fallout, but they reconciled to save Barf and Belch when they were in danger. She also appears to be slightly more clever than Tuffnut, such as when she knew what a rhetorical question is, while her brother didn't. Ruffnut has also shown to be slightly jealous of her female peers and felt underappreciated by her male peers. She ends up with a long list of romantic interests, more than any other character in the franchise.
Ruffnut and Tuffnut seem to actively cultivate the impression of being completely crazy, competing between themselves to outdo each other's outlandish behavior. This, along with downplaying their intelligence and exaggerating their difficulty paying attention, dramatically lowers everybody's expectations of them, allowing them to maintain virtually no productivity.
She and Tuffnut appear to be very keen on theater, acting in a very theatrical manner and using almost Shakespearean words and phrases at times, indicating that they could be classy

Stoick the Vast
Physical Appearance Stoick was a big man, with green eyes and long red hair. Towering over most Vikings, his presence alone demonstrated the might of the Berkian chief. Like almost all Viking men, he had a very large and muscular figure with barely visible freckles (a trait that his son inherited), and his hair in a thick braid in the back. The trend of braiding carried on his beard which was intricate in its many strands. His usual attire consisted of a large fur cloak draped over his shoulder, a dark green tunic from shoulder to knee, metal shoulder pads, a chainmail skirt with striped pantaloons, and fur boots. On his head he wears a large horned helmet that is supposedly crafted from half of Valka's breastplate. He also wore rounded-spiked braces around his wrists. During his appearances in the TV series, Stoick doesn’t wear his cloak. He also has pauldrons beneath his shoulder pads. Personality Stoick had a strong sense of responsibility and took pride in being a chief; he always tried his best to keep Berk peaceful and safe. As a father, he was the epitome of both stubbornness and caring. In the episode, "How to Pick Your Dragon", he commented that he had spent his entire life on Berk and was determined to make it a better place. He had been trying to look for a reliable and suitable chief to run the village when it was his time to step down, as seen in "Cast Out, Part 1" and the second film when he said that Hiccup would be a great chief. But as a chief, he adhered to certain "Viking ways" at times, believing that it was better for the village. Stoick's predominant motto was always that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, and thus was a firm but fair ruler.

This is Berk, a dragon-friendly utopia jointly led by new chief, Hiccup, and his best friend, Toothless, the reigning Alpha of all dragons. Much has changed on Berk in the five years since Hiccup and Toothless bonded and showed Vikings and dragons alike that coexistence between their species is not just a possibility — it’s the way of the future. The catapults and trebuchets that once dominated Berk’s towers during wartime have now given way to aqueducts, wing-inspired windmills, and Dragon Racing bleachers. Similar changes also occurred beneath Berk’s surface, where a reinforced hangar, complete stables, feeding troughs, and a dragon wash now occupy the old Whispering Death catacombs. Despite Drago Bludvist’s vicious attack on the island, Berk survived the Bewilderbeast’s barrage and emerged from the fray stronger than ever. Now joined by the full complement of Valka’s flock and the liberated members of Drago’s army, the people of Berk take to the skies on the backs of their dragons to protect their home and spread their message of peace.
