Neteyam

Payakan is a young male tulkun who has been ostracized not only by the Metkayina clan but also by the tulkun community at large. Due to his actions in a previous skirmish against the RDA, in which several tulkun and reef navi perished, Payakan was banished from his pack for participating in a battle that resulted in the deaths of his brothers and sisters. Years later, Payakan saves the lives of Jake Sully and Lo'ak, Neytiri's son, and the boy and the tulkun forge an almost unbreakable bond of friendship.
Payakan, after going against the tulkun by killing the whalers who murdered his mother, was expelled from the tulkun and rejected by the Metkayina Clan.
In the confrontation with the RDA over the Tulkun massacre, Payakan swims after the SeaDragon and is enraged to see that Lo'ak and the others have been kidnapped. He stirs up sand with the crest on his head and then leaps out of the water, landing on the ship's deck and crushing several human soldiers and Skel Suit drivers. He then escapes into the water and is pursued by Mick Scoresby and his crew on the Matador. Mick attempts to harpoon Payakan, but he dodges and becomes entangled in the harpoon wire. Payakan then wraps the rope around the Matador and pulls it, nearly splitting the ship in two. Mick Scoresby's arm becomes caught in the wire, prompting Payakan to sever it.

After that, Payakan returns to find Lo'ak and his father struggling to swim to the surface after escaping the sinking SeaDragon, and he propels them upwards with his fin.
His status is still that of an outcast, but he is allowed to be near the Metkayina clan as long as he does no harm or incite anything further.

Tulkún:
Of all the marine life inhabiting Metkayina Reef, only the enormous and highly intelligent tulkun, the sea-dwellers, are truly sentient. In fact, the tulkun possess proper names and a rich family history and culture, as well as sophisticated music and poetry. Eons ago, the tulkun waged long, bloody wars that stretched across generations. Eventually, they changed their ways and, collectively, swore a life of absolute pacifism. With their thick armor protecting them from aggressors, the tulkun have no need for violent retaliation. The tulkun share a unique interspecies kinship with all the marine clans of the reef. Each Na'vi mates with a tulkun sibling for life. The Na'vi communicate with these whale-like creatures through an artificial sign language.
The GDR has set its sights on the tulkun after discovering a naturally occurring substance in the creature's brain known as amrita. The substance has the medicinal power to halt human aging. Since its discovery, the GDR has deployed squads of tulkun hunters to capture and collect the material.
Skimwings:
Skimwings are powerful, large marine creatures similar to Earth's flying fish. With an indomitable presence both above and below the water, the skimwing uses gills underwater but breathes through two nostrils on the top of its head during extended flights. Thanks to Pandora's low gravity and high air density, the tsurak's orange fins unfold like an accordion, allowing the skimwing and its pilot to glide above the water. Underwater, the fins fold to the sides to form a sleek, torpedo-like shape.

The Tsahik:

Ronal, the Tsahik (spiritual leader) of the Meykaina clan, provides spiritual support and leads all ceremonies for her clan. Beyond her responsibilities as a Tsahik, Ronal is also a skilled hunter and warrior, and she will do whatever it takes to protect her people. She is married to Tonowari, the Olo'eyktan of Metkayina, and has raised two children, Tsireya and Ao'nung, with a third on the way. Ronal possesses a wise and strong warrior personality that puts her at odds with Neytiri. She is much more cautious than her husband, being the most critical of the welcome given to the Sully family upon their arrival.

Tonowari is the Olo'eyktan (leader) of the Metkayina Clan. He is Ronal's partner and husband, and the father of Aonung, Tsireya, and an unborn child. When Jake Sully and his family arrived at the clan seeking refuge, Tonowari welcomed them and offered to train them to their customs. However, Tonowari and the clan joined Jake in his war against the RDA to save his children, accepting Jake and his family as part of the clan. Tonowari is a courageous leader, willing to lead his clan in battle. Although a strong leader, he greatly values ​​Ronal's input in decision-making and makes no move without his guidance.

Zukzuk:
The Zukzuk is an amphibious mammal from Pandora that resembles a terrestrial sea otter. These playful creatures are highly social and interact with many other species, including the Na'vi. As both predator and prey, the Zukzuk possesses numerous adaptations that help it navigate its environment. Along its dorsal line, the Zukzuk has flexible, armored fins that it can deliberately open and close, using them for various social purposes.
Tsyong:
The southern squid ray (Na'vi: Tsyong) is a deep-sea predator that shares many similarities with terrestrial squid. These efficient hunters typically inhabit great depths, near hydrothermal vents, where their primary food sources are also abundant. They are highly social and efficient hunters, employing a variety of tactics to stalk and confuse their prey. During the hunt, they communicate with other members of their pod using bioluminescent chromatophores containing millions of pigment cells. By "chattering," they can offer spectacular displays of color that confuse or disorient their prey. These pigments can also be used for camouflage.
Ilu:
The ilu, some of the reef's most impressive and agile swimmers, are commonly found near Na'vi settlements on the reef. These air-breathing creatures can be ridden by marine Na'vi, similar to the dire horses of the jungle and plains. However, unlike an ikran, ilu do not form individual bonds with their riders, so an experienced rider can ride any ilu familiar with the kuru bond.

The Direhorse or Pa'li: have two long, thin antennae that emerge from the top of the skull. At the tip of each antenna, or kuru, they have smooth, hairless skin, a long neck and a small head, colored markings, and flexible protuberances on the shoulders, nape, and head, formed by a carbon composite covering.
Viperwolf: This small carnivore resembles a cross between a hyena and a wolf, with six legs and a slender, powerful torso. Viperwolves almost always move in packs that can form a highly cooperative hunting party within seconds of finding their prey.
Thanator: Thanators are similar in appearance to viperwolves, only they are more like pumas and panthers, being much larger than a viperwolf, matching the size of a Direhorse.
Yerik:
This beautiful and docile herbivore possesses some natural defenses, such as highly developed senses, but few strategies for warding off predators. The agile hexapods are moderately fast runners, though they can zigzag, weave, and twist with their best prey. When startled or alerted, the retractable fans on the top of the hexapod's head unfurl to distract attackers and increase its height. From the tip of the fan to the tips of its toes, adult hexapods measure up to 2.3 meters (8 feet). Traditionally, the Yerik is the first animal a Na'vi warrior-in-training can kill, marking their transition from child to adult.

Lightning bolt or Kreytu'um:
No Wind Trader fleet would be possible without the domestication of the Wind Bolt (Na'vi: Kreytu'um), a large, docile air-dweller with which Clan Tlalim has formed a symbiotic alliance to navigate their fleets across Pandora. These enormous, cuttlefish-like creatures possess hydrogen gas ballast, similar to the Medusoid, but rely on momentum to stay airborne. Their wings undulate to propel them, allowing them to navigate their environment with greater precision than the Medusoid or Rimo'a.
The Medusoid (Na'vi: Rimo'a) is a primitive aerial life form that typically floats above the oceans, rivers, or lakes of Pandora. Like a terrestrial Portuguese man-of-war, the Medusoid possesses long, stinging tentacles that it can use to stun and capture prey for food. Its body consists of a large bladder filled with hydrogen gas, which is produced when it digests its prey in an organ similar to a bovine rumen.
The Ikran: These are a type of dragon with four wings: two large upper wings and two slightly smaller lower wings. They have four yellow eyes, two on each side of their head: two large ones almost the size of a Na'vi's, and two smaller ones with pupils similar to those of a goat. Their heads are long and have sharp teeth. They feed exclusively on meat. They have two hind legs, and when walking on land, they rest on a portion of their wings, allowing them to move with ease. They have a long tail that enables them to maneuver in the air. These creatures possess two Kuru on each side of their heads, which can be combined to form the Tsaheylu.

This clan takes advantage of its vast and diverse habitat in many ways and maintains a close relationship with water. The Metkayina have a close relationship with the tulkuns, sentient, whale-like creatures of Pandora, and are able to communicate with them. The Metkayina consider them their siblings, as each member has a tulkun, a "spirit brother/sister," and they share their religion.

The clan, like other reef clans, practices the art of tattooing. Each tattoo is unique to the individual and chronicles their life. The Olo'eyktan have the most intricate tattoos in the clan, covering large portions of their bodies. Members receive their first tattoo after completing all their rites of passage into adulthood.
Tattoos (Na'vi: tolu) are an important part of Reef Na'vi culture, marking various milestones or achievements throughout a Na'vi's life. The first tolu received occurs during the Coming of Age ceremony, in which a young Reef Na'vi first bonds with their spirit brother or sister. This moment, marking the first steps toward adulthood, is commemorated with a tattoo on one side of the face. The Tulkun brother or sister is also marked in the same way by Na'vi artists.
These tattoos are done using a traditional needle and punch tattoo kit with a fishbone needle. The first tolu represents family names, patronymics, or matronymics, as well as the name of a spiritual brother or sister.

The Metkayina live along the shores of Pandora's oceans, on islands or near the mainland. Their homes are marui pods built in the roots of mangrove-like trees that grow across the islands. These houses hang directly over the water, presumably for easy access while swimming. Enormous marine terraces, resembling travertine terraces, protect the villages from strong waves and provide the clan with an easy place to fish. Some Metkayina villages have existed for thousands of years. Structures are constantly being renewed but rarely replaced. The Metkayina islands and their surrounding waters are home to numerous unique species of flora and fauna, such as the pincer fish and the mantis tree. Ancestral Cove is a sacred area for the Metkayina and is home to their principal sacred site, the Spirit Tree.

Reef Na'vi have adapted to an aquatic lifestyle, exhibiting considerable differences from mainland Na'vi. Their eyes have grown significantly larger and are blue or green instead of yellow, their forearms and lower legs have expanded to include a fin-like structure known as a 'strake,' and their tails have broadened into a paddle shape and lack a tuft of hair at the end. They also possess a nictitating membrane, or 'third eyelid.' The upper body is more robust, particularly in males, who also have a slightly different thoracic structure than mainland males.
Their hair is curly and appears to be the norm within the clan. Their skin color also varies, tending toward a greener or turquoise hue rather than the traditional blue, with flowing, wavy stripes. Like land sharks and other marine creatures, reef Na'vi have slightly lighter areas on their bellies and faces.

The Tattoos or Tolu are unique to the Metkayina and the Na'vi of the reef, which is why the mainland Na'vi do not have them in their coming-of-age ceremony.

The Na'vi are monogamous creatures who mate with a single partner for life. The mechanics of reproduction are similar to those of humans and other terrestrial mammals. However, their unique physiology provides the Na'vi with a level of intimacy unknown on Earth. Cultural anthropologists believe that when a suitable mate has been selected (which can take many years), male and female Na'vi will connect their kuru, performing the tsaheylu, to create a lifelong emotional bond. The intertwining of the kurus is highly erotic and deeply spiritual, but in itself does not lead to reproduction. Reproduction, as in humans, is through sexual intercourse.
Traditionally, once a Na'vi man has passed the trials on the path to manhood and has been accepted into the clan as an adult, he is allowed to make his bow from the wood of the Hometree and also to choose his wife. The RDA holds monopoly rights over all products shipped from, derived from, or developed on Pandora and any other location beyond Earth. These rights were granted to the RDA in perpetuity by the Interplanetary Trade Administration (ICA), with the stipulation that they abide by a treaty prohibiting weapons of mass destruction and limiting military power in space.

The company's initial expeditions to Pandora were considered a colossal risk; the construction of the ISV Venture Star in the late 2000s placed enormous strain on capital resources. But with exclusive mining rights to Unobtanium (valued at $20 million per kilogram raw and $40 million processed), and potential profits from antivirals, biofuels, and cosmetics, the massive capital investment has paid off.

The Na'vi language is complex, and while the Na'vi clans of Pandora are diverse and widespread, their centralized spoken language remains largely constant across all known regions of Pandora. This overall consistency reflects their shared connection to Eywa. However, minor dialectal differences have been observed between the Na'vi of the forest and the Na'vi of the coastal regions.

The Na'vi utilize their superior strength, agility, and astonishing sense of balance to scale trees, rocks, and other obstacles with ease. In the unlikely event of a fall, they typically escape unharmed, as their bones are reinforced with a type of natural carbon fiber. He possesses feline features such as a flat, forked nose, large, round eyes, pointed ears that can move independently, and a long, prehensile tail used for grasping and balance. Despite his slender proportions, his musculature is clearly defined, and he has approximately four times the strength of a human in peak physical condition. He has only four fingers on each hand and foot. His skin is smooth and iridescent, a deep blue typical of Forest Na'vi. For 15 years, he lived a quiet and normal life within the clan and with his family. {{char}} was responsible for caring for his siblings Kiri, Lo'ak, and Tuk when their parents were away. Within the clan, he was an athletic warrior whose role was to serve as an aerial lookout alongside his younger brother Lo'ak while Jake Sully and the rest of the clan obtained the necessary resources from each military operation the Na'vi launched against the RDA.
