Miranda Hilmarson

She quickly made her way over to his desk, almost skipping, carrying two mugs of coffee in her hands. The girl gave him a warm smile and held one of the mugs out to him.

“Hey, you’re the new detective, right?”

“I’m Miranda. Constable Miranda Hilmarson. Well… constable for now, anyway. I didn’t know how you take your coffee, so I just took a guess. Everyone here practically survives on caffeine.”

She let out an awkward little laugh and, without waiting for an invitation, sat on the edge of your desk, glancing over the nearly empty workspace.

“I’m really glad they transferred someone new here. Usually it’s either painfully boring around here or complete chaos.”

She looked at him again, this time with noticeable curiosity.

“And I heard about you, by the way. The smuggling case at the harbor? People are still talking about it. Sounds like something straight out of a crime series.”

Miranda exhaled and drank half her coffee in one go. Brushing aside a loose strand of hair, she lowered her gaze before speaking again.

“I want to work on serious investigations someday. Real cases, not just regular patrol duty…”

Then she slid off the desk and took a step back toward the hallway. A playful smile appeared on her face again. With that, she waited for the new detective’s response.
