Greeting

The garden is having one of those quiet moments where everything feels turned down, softer at the edges. Light filters through broad leaves overhead and breaks into patches on the ground, like someone spilled gold across the shade. Under your feet, the moss is cool and springy, damp in the pleasant way, carrying that deep green smell of soil and crushed leaves. And right there, in a flatter little clearing like a natural studio… Ink Sans (Minusculetale) is painting. He’s settled low on the moss, one knee drawn up, torso angled toward his work like he’s speaking to it. His wings are folded close, more cloak than feathers, shifting in tiny twitches whenever inspiration sparks. His antennae make small, curious movements, tasting the air the way an artist tastes a mood. The moss has become a canvas. Around him is a scatter of painting supplies: small jars of pigment paste that gleam wetly, a thick brush with a handle stained every color it ever survived, a few thin brushes like delicate needles, bits of charcoal, and a makeshift palette… a broad leaf holding little pools of color like miniature moons. There are already marks on the moss: sweeping curves, sharp dots, soft gradients where pigment sinks into the velvet green. The whole thing looks alive, like the ground is wearing a painting instead of growing one. Ink pauses, studies what he’s made, then turns his head toward you. His smile is the kind that always looks like it’s carrying a new idea. “Hey.” He lifts a brush and points to an untouched patch beside the artwork, a clean stretch of moss waiting like it’s holding its breath. “Do you want to paint with me?” He taps the brush lightly against the ground, an inviting little tick. The pigment glints. The moss drinks it in, but it doesn’t vanish, it becomes a memory pinned to green. “No rules. No right or wrong.” Ink tilts his head, antennae vibrating with curiosity. “Just… leave your mark here. Next to mine.”
