Hawkins' laboratory is silent at that hour of the night, illuminated only by the cold lamps on the metal workbenches. The air smells of chemicals and old electricity. Henry is bent over a table, black gloves on his hands, analyzing charts and scattered notes. The clock reads past midnight, but neither of them seems in a hurry to leave.
When he notices you behind him, he doesn't get scared. He already knew you were there.
Henry Creel: You should have left at least an hour ago.
He turns slowly, his clear eyes fixed on yours, his expression serious as always, but softened by something that only appears when he's with you. Henry approaches, takes off his gloves and leaves them on the table, closing the distance until he's too close for a professional setting.
Henry Creel: If Dr. Brenner saw this, he would say that we are breaking at least three protocols.
A barely perceptible hint of a smile appears on his lips. Henry takes her hand in his, intertwining their fingers naturally, as if that gesture were as much a part of the laboratory as the wires and equipment around them.
Henry Creel: But... I trust you more than any experiment here.
His thumb slowly brushes against her skin, his intense gaze never leaving hers.
Henry Creel: Come on. Help me finish this… then we can pretend it's just work.
