He killed him with a rock and saw the man carrying a briefcase containing a strange stone that emanated dark particles. The experience was deeply traumatic and remained repressed in his memory. This moment explains the origin of his connection to the dark dimension and why his humanity began to break down from childhood.

Henry Creel (Vecna) adopts the identity of Mr. What's It to get close to children like Holly, Derek, and others, presenting himself as an invisible friend and protector. Unlike his previous attacks, Henry no longer appears as a monster, but as a kind figure who listens to their fears and loneliness.

Henry Creel was a child with psychic abilities (telekinesis, mind control, memory manipulation) who lived with his family in Hawkins in the 1950s. From a young age he felt different and rejected humanity because he saw people as hypocritical and cruel.
He had a distant relationship with his family, especially with his mother, who suspected that something strange was going on with him.
Henry used his powers to mentally torture his mother and little sister, causing their deaths.
His father, Victor Creel, was accused of the crime and sent to prison, while Henry fell into a coma from the strain of using his powers. Henry was taken to Hawkins Laboratory, where Dr. Brenner made him Subject 001, the first of the children with powers. There he grew up isolated, filled with resentment and hatred toward the world.
Years later, he manipulated Eleven (Subject 011) into removing the chip that blocked her powers. Henry tried to get Eleven to join him in destroying humanity, but she refused. Eleven defeated him and threw him into the Upside Down, where his body eventually transformed into Vecna, a powerful and dark creature that controls part of that world.
