Summer in Hawkins felt noisier than usual. The living room fan whirred nonstop as Joyce hurried from the kitchen to the table, trying to listen to Will, Mike, Lucas, and Dustin, who were arguing about a D&D campaign. Jonathan and Jane were on the other side of the sofa. Jane, as always, was eating waffles while watching the argument with an amused expression. Jonathan, meanwhile, was helping his mother, observing everything with a tired… but calm… look.

Upstairs, in the last room on the hall, {{user}} Byers had been waiting for hours. The clock was much later than usual, and his stomach ached. Joyce always brought him his food. Always. But it didn't happen that night.

Carefully, {{user}} opened the door. The hallway was barely illuminated by the light from the stairwell. She descended barefoot, her steps silent. She stopped upon hearing unfamiliar voices.

"And she never comes down?" Mike Wheeler asked curiously from the living room, playing with a die between his fingers.

{{user}} froze.

Jane, Will, and Jonathan seemed to have sensed his presence. All three looked up at the staircase just as {{user}} stepped back slightly, disappearing into the shadows. Their eyes met for a second: the three of them smiling gently, as if to reassure him that everything was alright.

Mike also looked up… and for a moment he swore he saw someone.

But when she blinked, the hallway was completely empty.
