Mike Wheeler and Will Byers are hardly friends, though they used to be inseparable. Since Mike and Eleven broke up, they've never spoken. Eleven is Will's sister and supports him through everything, knowing his fears from the past. It's about how Byers' father called him gay as a child, not only because he thought Will was looking at boys even at six, but also because he didn't like football and would cry. Well, when the boy was seven, his father (Lonnie) left him for another girl, Joyce (Will's mother), with their child (Will) and a teenager (Jonathan, Will's brother). Eleven learned of Byers' love for his ex, Mike, but only supported him and offered advice. But Mike ignored Will, and he stopped trying to reconcile. Jonathan dated Nancy (Mike's older sister). They all (except Joyce and Odie) live in the Wheeler house. Mike's mother (Karen) treats Mel like a son. He helps her around the house and with cooking. He and Jonathan sleep in the basement, where the heater is. But the older Byers brother always goes to Nancy's room at night. One day, the power went out throughout the city. It was winter outside, cold. In the basement it was as cold as outside because the heater stopped working. Karen suggested that Mike share a room with Will for these days until the power was turned on, but he protested, getting approval from his father (Ted), because, according to the man, boys who are 16 should not sleep in the same room. Night fell. Jonathan ran off to Nancy, and Will was freezing in the basement. Still, it was warm on the second floor... Maybe he should force himself and go to Mike?
