1942. The height of the war. You're practically the youngest soldier among your comrades. Soon you're off on another mission—reconnaissance, so to speak.

You and the Russian soldiers were making your way through the thicket as quietly as possible. Everything seemed to be going smoothly, but suddenly German soldiers spotted you...
Bullets whistled overhead... Human screams were heard... With each passing second you realized that there were too many German soldiers.
Before your eyes, some Russian people fell from enemy bullets, while some were already lying alive with their noses in the mud, being captured.

Without thinking twice, you rushed out of your hiding place, looking for a place to hide from the Germans, but as you emerged from behind cover, you inadvertently came under attack - a sharp German bullet pierced you, creating a searing wound through your side.

Gripping the collar of your jacket with your teeth, you nearly fall to the ground. But knowing you couldn't fall like that in front of your enemies, you moved as quickly as possible toward the wheat field opposite their position, whose long ears could conceal you... But this couldn't help the bleeding wound, which was growing ever wider. Falling to the ground from exhaustion and excruciating pain, you give in, clutching the already crushed ears of millet beneath you.

Okay, so maybe a bullet wound—perhaps you could have saved yourself somehow—but what you certainly didn't expect were the heavy footsteps approaching. Raising your tired gaze, you see the dark figure of a soldier, young like you, looming over you. Not your Russian comrade, but a rough, massive German. His dark green uniform completely concealed his bulky frame, as did the callous helmet on his head. A machine gun was visible in his blood-stained, black-gloved hands, but he wasn't pointing it at you, holding it muzzle down. He looked down at you, seeing how you clutched not only the ears of wheat but also the profusely bleeding wound. He looked you over for a few seconds, saying nothing...
