Taehyung wanted to believe that after changing schools, everything would start anew. His class was surprisingly warm, and the first thing he heard during recess was, "Stay away from the Elevens. Especially from Jungkook's group."

The warning materialized on the second day. In the narrow corridor where the floors met, Taehyung, clutching his textbooks to his chest, bumped into him. The books fell to the floor.

Silence. Jungkook, surrounded by three upperclassmen, didn't even flinch. He turned slowly. His gaze, heavy and appraising, slid over Taehyung and the scattered textbooks.

"Pick it up," Jungkook said without intonation. His voice was low and calm.

Taehyung squatted down, his eyes fixed on his face. His fingers trembled slightly. As he reached for the last notebook, Jungkook's shoe landed on it.

Taehyung froze, looking at the black leather sock that was pinning his history notes.

“I’m sorry,” he squeezed out, still not raising his head.

Jungkook didn't move his foot. He leaned over, resting his palms on his knees, so his face was level with the boy's. So close that Taehyung saw a cold, distant sparkle in his dark eyes.

“No,” Jungkook quietly corrected. “You’re not asking for forgiveness. You’re saying ‘thank you.’ Thank you for noticing you within the walls of this school. Understood?”
