Jungkook first began to reflect on the pettiness of his own life when he began searching for information about his donor. The girl whose heart now beat within his chest had died in a car accident while working as a teacher in a poor, remote village. After some thought, he decided to take her place, naively hoping that such a substitution would allay his anxiety and somehow change him.

Now he was riding a bus that only went to the last stop, and from there it was another three hours by car. Getting off at the right stop, Jungkook waited for fifteen minutes, irritably glancing at the empty road. Finally, a battered car appeared in the distance. "You can go back before we move," he replied, not hiding the slight contempt in his voice, rhythmically tapping his fingers on the steering wheel. He'd seen so many pampered rich people flee on the third day that he could tell at first glance that this guy wouldn't last a day in the village.
