Nagumo came in 2nd place in the first manga character popularity poll, with 10,800 votes. Nagumo came in 1st place in the 2nd Manga Character Popularity Poll, with 28,478 votes. Nagumo possesses a "gold assassin's license," although it is unknown how it differs from a regular assassin's license. Nagumo often gets very carsick. Nagumo is the son of a famous family of spies. Nagumo is filthy rich, and there are rumors that he owns the entire top floor of a luxurious penthouse in Minato's neighborhood. Nagumo's hobbies include sleeping and playing light pranks on the people around him. He appreciates the comfort of his bed and the silence of the night. On the other hand, he detests mornings, waking up early, and riding in fast vehicles. On most weekends and holidays, he prefers to stay home, spending his time solving crossword puzzles (sudoku) instead of going out or socializing. Nagumo has a low tolerance for alcohol, and can't hold out much before feeling the effects. Nagumo has had relationships or girlfriends in the past, but due to the secretive and dangerous nature of his profession as an assassin, none of them lasted very long or became permanent.

The surname Nagumo means "south" (南) (na) and "cloud" (雲) (kumo/gumo). His given name Yoichi means "to give, provide, offer" (与) (yo) and "city, market, fair" (市) (ichi).

Six-Function Knife: Nagumo uses a large weapon similar to an automatic switchblade that has six different functions. In the past, he carried each blade separately under his overcoat.

Multiple blades Nagumo's large, multi-functional weapon contains several folding and retractable blades. One of its blades also functions as a can opener at parties. Daggers Inside the weapon, Nagumo carries a pair of daggers with blades sharp enough to pierce the roof of an SUV driven by an assassin targeting Shishiba, and sturdy enough to withstand blows from Yotsumura's three-section staff. Sickle A scythe that Nagumo wielded alongside his other weapons. He used it during his fight against Gaku, primarily to distract him from his invisible blade. Ax Nagumo's weapon can transform into a sturdy axe, which he used during the fight against Gaku to throw him against the wing of an airplane. The back of the axe is flat, which confused Gaku, who was unsure if the weapon was an axe or a hammer. Invisible Blade A disposable, yet sharp, blade made entirely of ceramic, with the peculiar characteristic of being almost invisible. Distracting Gaku with his other weapons, Nagumo managed to stealthily draw the ceramic blade and stab him. It is said that the blade only works once, as it becomes visible again after being stained with blood. Dice: Nagumo uses a single die to decide which blade to use to kill his enemy or to distract him and deliver a devastating blow.

Knowledge of poisons: Most likely due to his upbringing as a spy apprentice and his training in the JCC, Nagumo possesses extensive knowledge of how poisons work and knows how to adapt to them. Enhanced Speed: Nagumo is capable of moving at extreme speeds, being fast enough to instantly disappear from anyone's sight. He can move so fast that he even caught Shin by surprise, in addition to decapitating Minimalist in an instant. His speed is comparable to Gaku's.

Enhanced Strength: Nagumo lifted Minimalist by the neck with one hand, demonstrating enough strength to withstand Yotsumura's attacks, which were capable of easily cutting through the steel structures of a car carrier truck.

Enhanced Reflexes: Nagumo managed to save Heisuke Mashimo from a potential gunshot wound to the head.

Enhanced Durability: Nagumo is incredibly resilient despite his lean build. He remains completely unharmed after being struck by Gaku's mace, which hurled him through several walls, an airplane on display, and a car sculpture. Even after suffering a point-blank attack with Gaku's powerful laser mace, which sent him crashing to the ground with devastating force, Nagumo sustained only minor injuries.

Master Fighter: Nagumo's combat skills encompass everything involving coordination and dexterity, making him a deadly fighter. He can render a man completely unconscious with just his murderous intent.

Nagumo is extremely proficient with bladed weapons. He was able to decapitate Minimalist with ease,[35] and kill several assassins in one swift movement before they could react.

Slur stated that his combat skill was among the top two in the Order. This was evident in his fight against Gaku; despite being outmatched in physical ability, Nagumo managed to defeat him with his combat skill and cunning. Nagumo was able to deliver devastating blows to Gaku, catching him off guard with hidden weapons or distracting him with his data. Even after his weapon was destroyed, leaving him with all his blades separated, Nagumo managed to fight on equal terms with Gaku and eventually pierce him with the separated blades to end the fight.

Sharpshooter: Nagumo possesses great proficiency in handling firearms. He ranked 4th in the top 10 all-time JCC sharpshooters, scoring 84 points.

Morse Code: Nagumo is able to use Morse code, as demonstrated when he uses the turn signals of a moving vehicle to warn Shishiba that he was "killing".

High Intelligence: Nagumo was part of the intelligence gathering department during his youth in the JCC. He is an extremely perceptive individual, able to quickly deduce Kindaka's theory about the existence of a spy within the JAA organization without Kindaka even saying anything, and also quickly realized that Erio Muto, a JAA executive, was a spy working for Slur. His intellect and planning are, in part, what makes him such a lethal fighter, as he always manages to stay one step ahead of his opponents through deception and schemes.

Overall Skill Level: Nagumo is a former member of the Order and one of the strongest assassins in Japan. As a student, Nagumo was one of the three greatest talents to ever enter the JCC, alongside Taro Sakamoto and Rion Akao, with Rion Akao acknowledging his combat prowess. Kindaka, a founding member of the Order, stated that the three could be the future leaders of the assassin world. Currently, Slur considers Nagumo one of the two best fighters in the Order and therefore the second strongest assassin in the JAA.

Grandma Miya stated that he is currently stronger than Taro Sakamoto due to the latter's retirement, which has lasted five years. Kashima ranked him as an S-rank target on his target list. Sakamoto even stated that it would take a lot for Nagumo to lose a fight. Due to his exceptional combat skills, he was able to leave Gaku, one of Uzuki's strongest subordinates, on the verge of death after facing him in battle.

Master of Disguise: Nagumo can instantly copy the appearance of other people, a skill he used to deceive Lu Shaotang by disguising himself as Sakamoto. He can also disguise other people, including significantly altering someone's body shape, such as when he disguised the overweight Sakamoto as his wife, Aoi. When disguising Sakamoto, Nagumo claims the disguise would only last twenty-four hours.

Kindaka Nagumo met Kindaka after being expelled from the JCC due to his behavior and constant fights with Rion and Sakamoto. In an attempt to reverse the expulsion, Nagumo, Sakamoto, and Rion accepted a mission to assassinate Kindaka. However, after a fierce confrontation, Kindaka offered Nagumo and the others a place in the Order and took them on a mission with him. Later, Kindaka fell into a coma due to Kobayashi's poison. Driven by a desire to investigate Rion's death, Nagumo paid Kindaka's hospital bills for eight consecutive years, totaling 1.2 million yen per month. When Kindaka finally awoke, Nagumo handed him the full bill, which totaled 1.15 billion yen, and demanded payment.

Shishiba Nagumo and Shishiba seem to have a good relationship, based on reciprocity, although he sometimes irritates Shishiba to the point of feeling threatened.

Hyo Of all the Order members, Nagumo was the one who most enjoyed teasing Hyo. Despite this, Nagumo truly cared for him and was deeply saddened by his death. He fired a shot into the air as a sign of respect.

Allies Taro Sakamoto Nagumo and Sakamoto met when they were both students at the JCC, having known each other since they were 14 years old. Nagumo cares deeply for Sakamoto, to the point of not wanting him to be in danger, even knowing that Sakamoto's help is often needed. Nagumo has repeatedly demonstrated his strong friendship with Sakamoto, maintaining contact with him even after Sakamoto retired from his life as an assassin and became hunted by the JAA. He has also done favors for Sakamoto and helped him, such as when he disguised himself as Aoi Sakamoto and worked as a cashier, killing Minimalist in the process.

Sakamoto and Nagumo remained close friends over time and even collaborated, along with Kei Uzuki (who was possessed by Rion's personality), during the fight against Takamura at the Century Assassins Exhibition. Nagumo refused to follow Asaki's orders and chose to side with Sakamoto, which led to both of them being expelled from the Order and pursued by the JAA.

Rion Akao Nagumo met Rion after being transferred from the Spy Department to the Assassin's Department, where she initially wanted to attack him. Along with Sakamoto, they soon became an inseparable trio, causing property damage and engaging in pranks and fights. Their antics eventually led to their expulsion from the JCC, after which they were introduced to Kindaka and the Order together.

After Rion's death, Nagumo investigated the incident using various methods. This included paying for Kindaka's recovery expenses and rescuing Yotsumura from drowning so he could order him to search for any information related to Rion. Nagumo demonstrated on several occasions that he cared deeply for Rion, such as when he hesitated to attack Uzuki when Rion took control of his body and when he withstood the impact of Takamura's attack to protect Uzuki.

Despite this, Nagumo possesses a colder and more serious side. He acts in his own self-interest most of the time and sometimes even commits unethical acts. When he saved Satoru Yotsumura, he blackmailed him and threatened to kill Amane if he didn't do what he wanted. Furthermore, although he didn't blackmail Heisuke (which seems to be his most common method...), he participated in the boy's kidnapping, again, to obtain information.

Nagumo's most striking characteristics are his laid-back attitude, accompanied by a constant smile that seems impossible to wipe from his face. He also possesses an incredible talent for irritating the people around him to the point of making them wish for his death.

Nagumo also demonstrates a rather carefree attitude, even amidst intense battles, going so far as to state that he liked the wind in his hair while stabbing a man in the arm. He is also very playful with his opponents, as demonstrated several times. For example, he dodges and tricks Minimalist, a ruthless serial killer, before handing him some data to decide which of his blades he would die by. Another example is during his fight against Gaku, where he asked the latter if he liked Bruce Lee after being hit by a punch from only a few centimeters away.

However, when it comes to matters involving his friends, Nagumo tends to reveal his true emotions. An example of this is when he pulls Uzuki from Takamura's wound, questioning why he saved him despite Takamura being a dangerous serial killer, influenced by the fact that a part of Rion Akao still resided in Uzuki's body. In fact, Nagumo demonstrates deep affection for his old friends Sakamoto and Rion from their JAA days, still thinking about her even after her death has been confirmed. This is also confirmed in their encounter during the Century Assassins Exhibition Arc, where, as soon as Rion took control of Uzuki's body and spoke to him, Nagumo immediately recognized Rion's personality and questioned his identity.

Nagumo believes that the key to killing is "deception," despite claiming to despise it.

Nagumo is a very handsome man, tall and slender, yet muscular, with medium-length black hair and large black eyes. He wears a red polo shirt with triangular patterns in teal, black, and white, under a cream overcoat (in the manga, the shirt is white with red and navy blue patterns, while in the digitally colored version, the shirt is light blue and the overcoat is brown), as well as navy blue pants (black in the digitally colored version) and black shoes.

Occasionally, he wears a white button-down shirt with a black tie under a black suit (dark green in the manga) (and sometimes he goes without the suit and tie). He also carries a gray briefcase on his back, which contains his signature weapon.

At 14 years old, Nagumo already appeared taller and thinner than usual. His clothes generally consisted of a black t-shirt under a yellow-orange jacket with black chain designs, navy blue shorts, and a pair of wooden sandals.

Tattoos Nagumo has many tattoos, most of them hidden under his clothes. His tattoos have mathematical inspirations, in particular, they reference the Golden Ratio.

The tattoos shown include:

1. On the left side of his neck, he has a Fibonacci spiral scar. The growth factor of the Fibonacci spiral is the golden ratio, approximately 1.6180.
2. Two rectangular tattoos on both hands, another reference to the golden ratio.
3. The formula on his right forearm. This is a representation of an infinite sequence of nested square roots that results in approximately 1.6180... (the golden ratio).

Yoichi Nagumo (南ナ雲グモ与ヨ市イチ, Nagumo Yoichi?) is an important supporting character in Sakamoto Days and an old friend of Taro Sakamoto and the late Rion Akao. He is first seen visiting Sakamoto to inform him of his bounty and is revealed to be a member of the Order before losing his place during the Century Assassins Exhibition Arc.
