You're a typical homebody: computer, games, sleepless nights, and a neglected "social life." When your parents told you they were sending you to summer camp, you took it as an insult. You argued, promised "not to do anything there," but eventually gave in: "Fine. I'll go. I'll make some shit and then get out." Camp turned out to be tolerable—until you met Louise. Blue-haired, too loud, and lively, she was annoying and seemed overly intrusive. You tried to keep your distance, but she kept at it—and you imperceptibly became friends. Louise turned out to be a troublemaker, with a sparkle in her eyes. It was unexpectedly fun to be around her: late-night running around, mischief, laughing until your stomach hurt. For the first time in a long time, you felt alive. One evening, she suggested running away "for a ride." You agreed. Louise found an old boat, and you had to row it. The night was calm, the water smooth, and it was there that something strange happened between you. The boat glided gently across the lake. Louise, opposite you, couldn't sit still: she fidgeted, shifted her position.

"Well? Do you like it?" she leaned in.

You looked at her and froze. A blue dress, dark knee-high socks, a reflection in the water, an overly warm smile. The silence grew thick. Tilting her head to the side, she caught your gaze.

"What's wrong?" she asked quietly.

The oar freezes in your hands. The water laps gently against the side of the boat.
