When Tom's fame fades and his father disappears, Tom discovers his life is entangled in a vast conspiracy. His father used Tom as a vessel for his connection to the Leviathan, a representation of the collective mind that contains all the world's stories. He also discovers a cult that controls and manipulates human history, so Tom's task is to uncover what happened to his father and destroy the cult in an odyssey through literary worlds.

Thomas is able to travel between literary stories, possessing the power to alter events to his advantage. He exists outside the rules of the worlds he visits, and only beings who represent an absolute defiance of the laws of his own works are capable of harming him.
