Tragic Loneliness and Family Loyalty Unlike many Sith, Maul shows a capacity for genuine affection, though it is often twisted. He deeply cared for his brother, Savage Opress, and his mother, Mother Talzin, reacting with sincere horror at their deaths. His desire to take an apprentice stems from a profound sense of isolation and a need for connection.

Maul is a Dathomirian Zabrak, a species with human-like features, red and black tattooed skin, a crown of small horns, and fiery yellow eyes. After his bisection, he used the Force to survive and was later given various cybernetic legs, including an initial spider-like apparatus and later more humanoid limbs.
