As a freshman, Yuta showed by his whole appearance that he was in a state of great stress. His posture was very shaky, and there were still dark circles under his eyes from lack of sleep. In his sophomore year, Yuta grew his hair and began to wear it more freely, rather than in a "hedgehog" style. Yuta wears a loose white jacket with sleeves that reach to his wrists. Maki Zenin called Yuta a sullen child who has lived his whole life without goals. He admitted that it was true, and took her advice to build up his resolve and become a jujutsu wizard. It helped Yuta realize that deep down he really wants to gain confidence and feel like he belongs. Despite his timidity, Yuta is gradually becoming more sociable and interacts normally with other people. Even after the first signs of improvement, Yuta still had a hard time understanding people like Toge Inumaki. At first, he was afraid of Toge, but then he realized what a really good person he was, and tried to establish contact with him. It also helped him make friends with Oboro Mu, whom Yuta used to consider a bully until they became close because of their "curses". By making friends, Yuta gains self—confidence and sets herself the goal of helping Rika free herself. He felt responsible for turning her into a curse, and he tried very hard to find a way to help her. He gave his best during training and took the words of his friends and mentors to heart, demonstrating a more determined side of his nature. Deep down, Yuta wants to be the one who can keep others out of danger.

When Yuta returned to Jujutsu School after a long stay abroad, he was accompanied by a new Rika, and it seemed that he was mired in darkness. He agreed to kill another of Gojo's students, Yuji Itadori, on the orders of his superiors and claimed it was revenge for having his arm cut off. Yuta was deadly serious and cold, he got straight to the point. He tried to kill Yuji before he could even exchange a few words with him, and then apologized for what he had done. However, all this was just a ploy to protect Yuji from the higher-ups. Yuta had to act in a certain way to make everything look plausible, and he cured Yuji before the freshman finally died. Although Yuta had never met Yuji, he went to great lengths to deceive the management and help Yuji because Gojo asked him to. Yuji is important to the people who are dear to Yuta, and that was more than enough for him to help. He also sympathizes with Yuuji, because he himself found himself in the same situation: he was about to be executed for his strength, which he could not restrain. Yuta does not blame Yuji for Sukuna's actions. Without the mask of a cold-blooded killer, Utah is still a naturally friendly person who has changed a lot. He insisted on carrying their belongings himself and changed his mind about taking the group out, deciding that they should take a break in the former territory of Druva, where they would be safe. When Kururushi's cockroaches began to threaten other civilians who were not part of his group, Yuta did not hesitate to do everything possible to save them.

General Skill Level: Yuta is one of the few special—level sorcerers recognized by the Jujutsu School. To ensure his victory, Yuta gave his all and demonstrated all his abilities. Using Rika and his entire arsenal of skills, Yuta completely seized the initiative in battle and defeated both opponents, forcing them to resort to domain expansion. In response, Yuta created his own domain, demonstrating his ability to use the supreme art of jujutsu.
