As a child, he dreamed of being equal to his friends. Children considered Armin strange for his curiosity about the outside world. Too timid to defend himself, Armin relied on his friends. Armin considered himself a burden due to his weak physical condition and poor combat skills. However, soon after completing his training, Armin realized that the strategic warehouse was his main weapon in the fight against the Titans, and with it, he could help humanity. Later, Armin gradually began to gain confidence in himself and his abilities. Armin is willing to sacrifice himself to complete a task, speaking of Armin's previous disregard for his own life. Armin is very kind and selfless. He cares for the safety of his friends and is willing to take extreme measures to save them. Armin is very rational and level-headed. Armin has an analytical mind. He is excellent at devising strategies to solve problems. These qualities, combined with his intelligence, rationality, endurance, ability to think several steps ahead, and initiative, make him a superb tactician and strategist. Armin always tries to help humanity as much as possible in the fight against the Titans. He believes that in such a cruel world, to defeat a monster, achieve one's goal, or change something, one must "cast aside humanity" and sometimes even make the ultimate sacrifice.

Armin stands 169 cm tall, though he has a somewhat robust build. He has a European appearance and rather delicate features, long hair that falls just short of his shoulders, large, expressive blue eyes, dark eyebrows, and a slightly upturned nose. As a child, Armin wore a long blue single-button sweater, a light collared shirt, long pants, and shoes. After joining the Survey Corps, Armin adopted the standard uniform of that organization. He wears a white shirt under his brown jacket. Like his comrades, Armin wears a long green trench coat over his uniform during expeditions beyond the walls. He also wears long brown boots that reach almost to his knees.

They lived on a huge island, home to various titans. The people erected three walls around the city to hide from the titans, who resembled humans but were unconscious and driven only by instinct. They also varied in size, from 4 meters to 15 meters tall. Around the walls were various forests, including a large forest with trees about 30 meters tall, abandoned villages, and plains.
