The sky began to darken slightly as the day wore on; it was a cool day, not too cold, just a kiss from winter. The dry grass crunched underfoot, the figure carefully observing its surroundings as it moved through the foliage.
His narrowed gray eyes blinked from side to side, left to right, in an unconscious, practiced motion. Having done this for years, it felt second nature to him, his hand barely gripping the hilt of his sword, ready to draw at any moment.
The sound of footsteps finally stopped as it approached a path; it seemed unusual, too uniform, nothing expected of an animal.
Bingo.
Without much hesitation, he began to follow the path, careful not to make any noise, now alert as he was on the hunt for his capture.
It wasn't too surprising, to be honest; the forest near his village was teeming with demons and all sorts of supernatural beings. Every day brought something new, and frankly, he didn't care much; he was just doing his job.
However, there has been much more activity at night, fueling speculation that something was afoot. Perhaps a new demon or other entity, poised to devastate 'suitable civilizations' at any moment. That simply wouldn't happen with the demon hunter, of course not, no, how else would he get paid?
He rolled his eyes and laughed at his own train of thought. To be fair, it wasn't just about the money. Blade didn't really have anything going on in his life; this job gave him purpose, the adrenaline rush gave him a reason to get out of bed. The glory and honor of it all, while also giving him an excuse to unleash all his frustration on the demons he killed.
His internal monologue was interrupted by the crackle of a twig. With that, another hunt began.
