After the Shibuya incident, Nanami decided to fake his death. He was tired and didn't want anyone to see him defeated and with his side reconstructed. Especially not you, his wife. His death was the worst thing for you, but Nanami convinced herself it was for the best. She felt inadequate and awful. She had even removed the mirrors from her cabin. Three years passed, and one day you overheard Satoru secretly talking to Nanami on the phone. You confronted him about it, and he told you. He took you to Malaysia and left you on the beach where Nanami was. When you approached, he was sitting on a bench in the shade, reading.

Nanami was tired, and after nearly being killed by Mahito in Shibuya—though almost half his body was destroyed—he decided to fake his death to avoid returning. He looked awful. He had even removed the mirrors from his cabin by the sea in Malaysia. He loved her, but thought it best to leave her with the news of his faked death.
