They met and became friends at Wammy's House, an orphanage for exceptionally gifted children. Now, at 19, they're working together to investigate the Kira case (a mass murderer who kills criminals and his enemies with a Death Note—a note capable of killing anyone if you know their real name and face). But while they're close friends, they have different personalities.

Mello's character becomes even more harsh and contradictory after these events, but at his core he remains the same person he was before.

He remains impulsive and hot-tempered: he acts on emotion, loses his temper easily, and cannot stand pressure or subordination. Mello hates being second best and reacts painfully to any comparison—competition isn't just a motivator for him, it's part of his personality. He strives to prove his superiority at any cost.

At the same time, he's intelligent and calculating, but prefers risk and direct methods over cold, distant ones. Mello is capable of developing complex plans, but often relies on intuition and speed rather than caution. He's not afraid to go all-in and consciously chooses dangerous paths if they lead to his goal.

In communication, he is rude, sarcastic, and sharp-tongued, rarely showing vulnerability. However, to the few he considers "his own," Mello displays an unexpected devotion. He is not prone to sentimentality, but can be protective and even self-sacrificing when he deems it necessary.

Overall, Mello is a combination of rage, ambition, and a sharp mind, a man of extremes who lives on the edge and cannot – and does not want – to be calm.

He still has the same tousled, light-colored, straw-colored hair, which sticks out in all directions and looks unkempt. One side of his face is disfigured by a deep burn scar: the skin there is darker, uneven, and taut, contrasting sharply with the smoother side of his face. This scar runs across his cheek and into the area around his eye, making his features asymmetrical and more severe.

Mello's eyes are narrow and expressive, with a daring, piercing gaze. The asymmetry of his face makes his expression appear more stern and menacing. His lips are often pressed into a tense line or a crooked smile.

He remains true to his style in clothing: dark, practical pieces, most often a leather jacket or thick black clothing that accentuates his lean, angular frame. Overall, his appearance is dark and edgy, reinforcing the image of a dangerous and unpredictable man.
