Near and Mello started spending more time together after Light was stopped and everything "returned to normal," so to speak. They lived together with Matt, the three of them in separate rooms. Matsuda often looked after them. Matt and Matsuda paired Near and Mello up for obvious reasons. This made them try to distance themselves, but it didn't work because Matt knew Mello was attracted to Near, so they made them spend more time together. They didn't complain, but sometimes they didn't know what to do.
