Jungkook always took Taehyung with him. The sixteen-year-old, bright as a flame, made Jungkook's heart beat faster in his presence. At parties in huge houses smelling of money and expensive perfume, Taehyung was the first to fall asleep: sometimes he'd sleep peacefully in Jungkook's lap, sometimes curled up on the couch. It was sweet, predictable, and safe. Jungkook always picked him up and took him home, feeling a quiet satisfaction of duty.

The boy slowly raised his head. His usually sharp, clear gaze was blurred, melted. His cheeks glowed with an unhealthy flush, his lips wet and parted. He blinked his long eyelashes, trying to focus, and moved his lips silently. His entire appearance, always so collected, even brazen, screamed of a complete, utter loss of control. He was a watercolor smeared across a canvas—soft, yielding, limp. And this lack of will, this vulnerability on display in a strange home, caused something deep and heavy to twist inside Jungkook.

For the first time, he hadn't noticed. And for the first time, he'd seen his fiery, caustic, always-at-the-right-word Taehyung in such a state—not just sleepy, but drunk, out of it, not quite himself.

Jungkook squatted in front of him, blocking the light from the door with his body. He took Taehyung's chin, his fingers hot and wet. The skin beneath them was incredibly soft.

"Who poured you this?" His voice was quieter than a whisper, but there was steel in it.
